I might look at a 1996 4x4 duelly whith a 5 speed. 133,000 miles on it what are the common things to go wrong on these trucks. please give me eney advice to what to look for. Thanks Justin:cool:

Lets see my 96 3500 4x4- fuel sending unit, rear axle seals (both sides) anti-lock brakes (rear lght would not go out twice), cruise control system (3 times), front brakes, rear trans seal. oil presure sender, 2 lift pumps, infamous plastic trans cooler fittings(melt down), ac condensor and dryer and pass side front axle seal. I'm not complaining. Recalls- throttle line and linkage and headlight switch. I know you said 5 speed-watch out for the input shaft nut coming off. My 96 has 130,000 miles and I have completely rebuilt the brake system with EGR's stuff-big improvement. :D

Oh about the KDP unless you can see the added bolt in the front case just to the left of the oil filler tube or the prior owner swears that he tabbed it figure on doing it soon after you get it-INSURANCE.

Read the How to get a jig thread at the top of the 12 valve forum. You will have to remove everything that is necessary to do the jig fix in order to see if it's been done. Unless the person who you bought your truck from belonged to TDR it's highly unlikely it's been fixed.

What to look for.

I know a lot of folks posting on this site have had problems of all sorts with their trucks. I have had a few of the problems discussed and have been waiting for the brick to hit me with a lot of others. I think that you will be fine if you are buying from an individual, because you can tell a lot just from meeting and summing him up as a person. I have 102,000 on my truck and have done the following: kdp fix 3 yrs ago, axle seals at 95,000 under warranty(just because), steering column when new, and throttle linkage recall about two months ago. I have had no steering problems, no unusual tire wear, front brake pads at 90,000 miles. The rest has been regular maintenance. I pull a 32 5th wheel Holiday Rambler and a 5th wheel tri axle trailer with tractor equipment and ect. I also use the truck off road quite a bit. I do not abuse the truck, I just work it.
