Hello all. I'm looking at stacking my current box and was hoping to get some suggestions or words of advice from you guys. From my sig, you'll see I haven't any transmission or fuel delivery mods, so I'm not looking to get too crazy. However, down the road I do expect to upgrade the vb/tc or complete trans. I am considering a timing box, such as the TST module, but am not sure which one (pmrc 55, 75, 95). Because I already have gauges and I'm not really looking for incab adjustability, I'm not considering the R37 or 49. I don't do a whole lot of towing (8000# every other month for short distances) and most of my driving is hwy. Just wanted a little more power to play with from time to time and not be too worried about trashing my trans or other equip. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well if you plan on upgradeing your transmission later, you might as well get the TST PMCR with R37 Adjustable program remote... It has lots of room to grow into... . You can also stack the Smarty with your EZ. . If you plan on going bigger down the road get a Chip that will grow with you. . Wesley

i started off with just the EZ also..... liked it pretty good but wanted more..... now i'm runnin an intake 4" exhaust and a smarty... ... the smarty was pretty touchy by itself so i added the EZ back with it... ... the EZ really smoothed out the smarty..... the compliment well... . i keep the EZ on 40hp and usually run with smarty on 3 but have run stacked as high as 9... ... i don't have any fuel system, injector or turbo mods yet... ... . but all 3 are in the works..... the EZ and smarty made enough HP to easily overrun the stock clutch... ... later

Thankyou all for the input. Because I'm still learning how to use this system, I hope my response gets back to all. I pull an 8000lb trailer from time to time. When I do, I normally pull with the EZ on Level 1 or back to stock. Question: Whether I go with Smarty (and no fueling) or TST(which I assume is all timing), can I safely pull my trailer without being too worried about high egts or other issues? I would expect exhaust temps to rise, so, I will most likely turn the EZ down or off. To get right down to it, I don't have any immediate plans to upgrade my turbo, injectors and fuel system and am not looking for incab adjustability. I am just looking for a mild-moderate stack with the stock components in mind, which is why I was considering going with the plug-in PMCR 55 or 75. Thanks again.

I know my TST PM3 stacked with a my Comp(untapped) runs great, I haven't towed yet with it, so I can't tell you how it would work there. I think with this setup, if you turned it up much at all on a stock transmission it would probably be too much for it. If you get that covered the TST should work great for you. I would also recommend the Smarty, but you said you were looking for in cab adjustability, I think that is the only drawback to the Smarty.

Now for a stupid question. What do you mean by "untapped"? Also, is there some reason you guys aren't commenting on the PMCR55 or 75 boxes. From what I have read, these are recommended for those of us with stock trannys and such, but, do not have any adjustability as the newer boxes. Thanks and keep the information coming!

Sorry, what I mean by "untapped" is the wire to the injector pump that you "tap" into isn't connected, this makes the Comp an EZ basically. I have the TST plugged into its spot. The powermax3 is the only TST product I've used so I can't speak about the other TST boxes.

the topic is getting mixed between 2nd and 3rd generation trucks so the answers dont apply to both trucks.

Thanks for the catch, didn't notice his year till you mentioned it, I'm kinda bad about that:rolleyes: Not sure how much that changes things in this thread though.

Not a problem. If I was any sort of a "gearhead", I would have known what you were relaying. Thanks again for all the information. Looks like I'm going to have to choose between the TST and Smarty. Either way, better play it safe and get some transmission work done.

Hello Bob. Thanks for clarifying. I spoke with Marco some time ago when I first heard about the Smarty programmer. He highly recommended with any power upgrades above what i am running or in conjunction with, that at a minimum, I consider upgrading the vb/tc. From the input received in this thread, and, from reading others, it's becoming obvious to me there isn't a whole lot I can safely do at this point (as far as stacking) without taking some risks.

Yeah, its always better to have the parts beforehand and plan on replacing something, it really sucks whe you break it and need to find parts afterwards. transmission would be my next step if I were you. THEN let the fun begin!

Hello everyone, I would like to jump in on this thread-- I am seriously thinking about running the Superchips Firefly, which is a rebranded Edge EZ with a split analog gauge for EGT and Boost and on the fly control. I haven't been able to find an active thread on the Firefly, so I figured maybe I could learn how all this works by talking about the Edge EZ with the rest of you. My truck is all stock and I plan to keep it that way for awhile. I am looking only for mild and safe boost for everyday driving and occasional towing of 8k to 12k pounds. Eventually, I AM interested in stacking it with a programmer like the Smarty mostly because the Smarty seems to have 1 or 2 MPG programs for ultimate highway gas mileage when I am not towing (and seems to come with great customer service). My interest in MPG doesn't mean I won't sometimes play with the truck out and about, but I don't want or need more than 65 HP boost and I DO like the idea of having BOTH power and MPG options. I honestly wouldn't run the smarty above level 3 without further mods, upgrades and guages. Basically, I am wondering if the Edge EZ (Firefly) and Smarty run at or below level 3 will be a SAFE and generally trouble-free stacked upgrade to an otherwise stock (but awesome!!) truck. TIA for any input-- Cfish

Cfish, I believe since you are running a 6-speed instead of auto, you're in better shape than us 47RE guys (someone chime in if this is incorrect). I think with any power adder, gauges are must, not to mention intake and exhaust mods. Before I installed the EDGE EZ, just the AFE and 5" exhaust alone was a huge improvement over stock.

Hey CookJ, thanks for the reply!!... I was beginning to think that maybe people were ticked off that I was hijacking this thread. One reason why I like the Firefly is that it comes with the split analog boost/egt gauge. The gauge is ALSO the controller for the module--touch the face of it once, and you go to stage 1 boost (25 hp), touch it twice and you got to stage 2 (45 hp) and touch it a 3rd time and you go to stage 3 (65 hp). From what I have read, as long as I stay under 80 hp boost, I should be fine with the stock truck. Not that I won't be willing to upgrade the intake and exhaust eventually. In fact, I am looking at the Rokktech "silent Might" tuned/straight pipe muffler as well as the Amsoil stock replacement filter (though I am also interested in the Ice Box intake with larger Amsoil filter--<http://iceboxmanufacturing.com/dodge.php?m=dc3>. I think eventually I would like to stack it with a Smarty programmer like I mentioned, and just keep everything running under 80 hp boost. Have you gotten a Smarty yet?? I am aslo wondering how do you switch boost stages on the Edge EZ??

The Edge EZ does not have in-cab adjustability and you have to manually set the hp levels. The module is mounted under the hood on the fuse box. Basically, I remove two allen screws from the back cover plate of the module and reset (whole job takes about two minutes). Since I haven't done anything with the transmission or fuel system, I haven't bought the Smarty or TST and am playing it safe for now. Only until I do will I be able full advantage of what these boxes have to offer.
