What tool for 03 manual transmission fill

what tool is used for a 6 spd manual transmission on a 2500 03 4x4?

isn't there a drain plug as well or do you remove the extra pto cover?

It takes a 17mm allen wrench. To drain you remove the bottom bolt on the PTO cover.

I used to use an empty quart gear lube bottle and fill through one of the top PTO bolts on the drivers side to fill an extra quart in there. Now that I have fast coolers on it, I'll probably just remove the shifter and fill the 10 qts it needs through there.

Yeppers, thats what Blumenthals wants in there with the fast coolers on it.

To fill the extra "quart" recommended, it takes around 7 quarts with the fast coolers.

Yeah, I have 6. 5 in mine... 10 seems like WAY too much.

Heck, I was putting in 5 qts with just the stock PTO covers on there. Blumenthals built it, I'll put in what they say. When I service it in the spring... if time permits, I'll try to see just how much "extra" they hold. IIRC, they said they like to overfill 2 qts above what would be considered "stock". So, 5 qts, plus the 2 extra, plus 1. 5 for each cooler sounds about right. Been in there for a few months, no leaks.

Ummm, they hold 4. 75 quarts with stock covers to a normal fill... I could get 5 quarts in without any special feat.



The fast coolers add a little more than a quart... everything I have read indicated Bluementhal recommends overfilling by a single quart, not two.



Seven quarts (with the fast coolers) is slightly more than a quart over the "fill". And by adding that extra quart, the trans runs hotter... figure that one out.
