okay, okay... don't hate me cos i'm ignorant. you all have just put the fear of God in me that i'm gonna gouge sometthing i don't wanna gouge when i pry that ring out. am i being too careful? what tool is best used to extract that turbo silencer snap ring? i want the whistle!!

couple of screwdrivers

I just used a small screwdriver to lift the end of the ring up enough to get another screwdrive under it from the side. Then it just popped out.

Done it to two trucks, had pretty good luck so far.

If you really like the whistle, try the K&N RE-0880 air filter. Mine sounds like freaking jet airplane under the hood. Sounds awesome.

Hey Jawbreaker

Do this one too, when you get all the stuff off and the ring out of the way and before you install the air cleaner hose, clean the area of objects and fire it up open turbo then give it a rap, you'll love it. I also took the boot off the factory box to give it more air room, you'll love the new sound on the next spool up. :D

  errr... i gave up. i was gouging the living crap out of everything trying to lift that snap ring up far enough to get another thin flatblade underneath, so i chickened out. make me feel better--every truck is different, and this one just has a snapring that don't wanna come out, right??

well, i'm sure i'll try it again sometime when there's more time and less frustration built up. any suggestions inn the meantime? (this is getting a little bit embarassing) i'll get better, don't worry.

Jawbreaker,

If you can get one end pried up a little and work it out of the groove toward you, then just work around it a little at a time. You should only need the screwdriver to get it started out of the groove.
