What tool to use to remove drain plug on '03 HO with 6-spd?

I want to check the fluid level on my '03 CTD HO with the 6-spd. It looks like a huge allen wrench type plug. What are you guys using to remove this plug? Thanks.

Just to clarify I'm referring to checking the transmission fluid.

Trans plug..

HS, it is a 17 mm allen wrench that fits, the same as the old Volkswagen bug trans plug.

Ifn I recall, I use a 10mm 1" bolt with nut welded on. The head/nut are 17mm and its a cheap adapter if you cant find a VW wrench.

Sams Right 17mm hex just like the early VW(61 to 79) trans drain and fill plugs.

I just dug through the bolts in my bolt bin till I found one that had a head that fit and turned it with a pipe wrench. Not very elegant but it worked.

I went to a pawn shop and found one for a 1. 00 It's the same as the 01 DEE

Well, I'm a little ways! Dallas, TX. Can I pick up one of these 17mm Allen wrenches at the local Pep Boys, etc. ? Or try a Home Depot?

In Dallas, go to Elliots Hardware. I would be very suprised if they did not have something that would work.



There is one on Maple in Dallas and on Main street in Grapevine. There is a 3rd one but I cant remember where it is.
