There's a plate toward the rear with your model number. Might be covered by accumulated dirt.

More than likely you have a 241DLD std duty. If you have a heavy duty it is a 241DHD.

What's the difference? Were there problems with one or the other?

These cases have a history of the output shaft snap ring breaking. I read about a product that cures this problem. I did a search on Google for transfer case saver and found them. Mine broke last spring and it messed things up enough that it took more than a 500. 00 bill to fix it. Here is the link.

The 1995 trucks with the automatic transmission came standard with the 241 standard duty transfer case. You could buy the 241HD transfer case as an option. It also was included as part of the snowplow preparation package option (which I got).



I don't know which transfer case came with the 5-speed.



If your truck has the original equipment transfer case, you should be able to get any Dodge dealer to run your VIN through his computer and tell you which case was installed at the factory.

3/4 ton had the light duty (1000 ft lb rating) and 1 ton had HD (1400 ft lb). HD was an option on 3/4 ton Rams. The HD has a PTO cover on the passenger side--easiest way to tell.
