Hey all, I am in the process of trying to put together the Ontario Chapters first year of diesel events and I am looking for suggestions.

I am trying to come up with 12-15 events to cover the next 12 months. Although some of those 15 meets will maybe just be coffee/donut type of events, a good majority of them will be something that is worth the while of members who may be a fair driving distance to the event.

So my question: What types of things do you like to do or would want to do? What are your favorite types of diesel events? What would make you come?

I have a few ideas like a dyno day, BBQ, tech events at a diesel shop, a few truck shows, maybe even rent a sled and teach newbies how to sled pull!

Please feel free to give ANY ideas that you have! I am open to all suggestions regardless of where you are located!

Thanks!Oo.

I've been to numerous diesel events around the US (Sheid Diesel Extravaganza, Terra Haute, IN. '02, the last Thunder in Muncie [IN. ]'04, Turbo Diesel Nationals in Columbus, IN. '02, May Madness in Las Vegas or Parumph, NV. every year since '02, a couple of events in Tulare, CA. , a couple of dyno events in So. CA. & numerous events & get togethers in AZ. )

For many, ANY diesel event from a coffee & donut get together to full-blown events like Sheid's will draw people. I've heard that Sheids can draw 600 to 800 trucks from around Canada & the US. TiM was really big, also. We've had get togethers, here in AZ, that drew just a handfull or more people.

From what I've seen, dyno's seem to be a big draw. Sled pulls are expensive (renting the sled + damage to trucks that are not properly set up). They are fun, though. Grilling hamburgers & hot dogs + soft drinks doesn't hurt, either.

We have a nice group forming, here in AZ, that is centered in another cummins diesel website. They are organizing diesel drag race get togethers, dyno's & monthly meetings. Even the meetings are fun. Many folks stay from 6:00 PM to about 10:30-11:00 PM. These meetings are held at a large hamburger joint (Fuddrucker's), here in Phoenix. Some of the members have Duramaxes & Powerstrokes, also. We do have a common interest!!! They have sceduled two dyno events in the Phoenix area in January.

I think that the key is to have good leadership. There are people that are great at organizing events. They never give up on their interest. The rest of us just follow. I've tried to organize a few get togethers at a truck stop in Eloy, AZ. between Phoenix & Tucson. We had around a dozen trucks show-up. It seems to me that the people that are successful, at this, incorporate activities like dyno's, also.

May Madness is a fun event for me & many others. It draws people from all over the country. MM usually has a wide variety of activities including dyno's, truck pulls, occasionally, vendors, seminars, truck rodeos. They are very well organized & have a lot of experience doing this. It does require a lot of work from the leadership. But, it is a FUN event!!! The diesel truck popularity draws a wide veriety of people that have different needs from these trucks. Many of the older folks are interested in RV towing & like the stuff that pertains to towing performance. A lot of the younger set like the all-out performance (drag racing & dyno's) & some of them tow, also. MM seems to have things that are of interest to everyone. It is a very well done event that I enjoy more than Christmas & my birthday. A great group of people attend this event, annually, & I've made some good friendships from MM.

I hope this information helps you.
