Currently driving an 01 and will be upgrading in the next month or so to a 2008 6. 7L 4x4 DRW Quad cab. I will be towing about a 14k lb dry weight toy hauler, loaded I would say 16k lbs maybe? Not too familiar with diesels really so sorry if some of these questions sound stupid. Im just a baby diesel driver. Can you people give me some ideas on what gauges I should install? Im probably not going to do any upgrades to the truck at least for a while until I know more about them.

Also, would someone please explain what the following mean:

Pyro gauge?

Boost gauge?

regen?

EGT?

Thank you

Pryo = exhaust gas temp(egt). A must have.

Trans oil temp imo needed if you are towing regular especially with an automatic.

Boost= turbo out put. Needed more on a bombed truck. I have it like to watch it, and I will add smarty hopefully when available. Someone maybe able to explain better.

Regen = Do a search mucho info on here about that.

2rowdy, you think the 3. 73 is better than the 4. 10? i will be ordering my 6. 7l dually soon and was trying to figure out which would be better, i will be towing a toy hauler around 13000lbs dry

I will let you read up on that as it could start a small skirmish. I tow regular around 12 to 14000 lbs and I could not be happier. I had 3. 73 in my 04 with the six speed manual it did great. You will have alot more wind drag then me. I really haven't heard to much about the 6. 7l with 68rfe and 4. 10's so maybe some one that has one will chime in. Long way around 3. 73's do everything I need to do just fine. I don't know how much mpg diff their is between the two but I couldn't handle much lower.

I sure wish I had the 4. 10 with my 6. 7 and the 68 rfe transmission... I haul all the time though and that might be the only reason too. I just see so much area for the 4. 10's to do a better job while towing and in sixth gear LOL... Not that it doesn't do just fine in fifth though, as the 6. 7 is a beast if you get right down to it, the beast just likes a heck of a lot of fuel:)

I really think you would be able to do better on the fuel mileage numbers with the 4. 10's and the 68rfe... I would sure like to think so anyway.

Jeb, we have the same truck you do except with the 4. 10's. It tows 12. 5k unbelievably well. At first I thought something was wrong when it was towing in 6th!!! It downshifts to 5th at approx. 60mph for small. /medium sized hills, but accels right back up to 65. It gets between 9-10mpg towing at 65

i LOVE THE 410 GEARS IN MINE haven't pulled hard with it but just running empty its a blast if you plan on towing heavy with it get the 410's I think will give you the low grunt you will like and as for the 68rfe its sweet also got close to 3000 miles and not a thing wrong with it I love every min of driving it .

DB,

Thanks for the info dude. You know I would have thought it would have done better on the fuel with the 4. 10's but you seem to get about the same mileage as I do.

I am starting to think with the new emission stuff on these, fuel mileage will be mandated from that stuff, or I guess I should say the lack of LOL... Don't appear to be much difference from the gear ratio as to what fuel mileage you get. Sure seems weird to me... Thanks again
