What Type of Transmission do I Have

I think I might be mistaken... I assumed that because I have a 2006 that I had a 49RE Auto Trans. Is their a certain date that the truck had to be manufactured to have the 49RE, or do you have to order /request the 49RE.

Can I look at anything on the transmission to identify the type?

I am new to the CTD and am learning , the way it sounds is that the 49RE is a myth. 2006 48RE it is.
