Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) what type/size wrench for '01.5 front brake calipers?

i noticed the 2 brake caliper bolts on the front of my '01. 5 have a different type head than the allen heads on my '94. looks like a star pattern. is there a special tool for these bolts?

If I remember correctly, mine were a 12 pointed 15mm bolts on my 2000. Not sure if they went to a different size in 2001.



They were on real tight and had to get a 15" break over to loosen them up.

on my '01 they look like they take a torx bit but none i have will fit inside the head properly.

fj40charles,,you are thinking of the caliper adapter which is bolted to the steering knuckle. i need the size of the two small bolts that hold the caliper itself to the caliper adapter. this is a 3500 4x4,,not sure if the 2500's are different.

I checked mine in June. It took a T-45, but I have a '00 4x4 2500. Might give ya a place to start.

thanks bill, i'll go buy a T-45 and try it. 3500 and 2500 should be the same. does your 2000 have the dual piston calipers?

Iceman - my 2001 front caliper bolts are a Torx T50

Brake Caliper Bolts 01.5 are 16mm 12point

After 2 runs to the Auto parts store... the attaching Bolts for Caliper to mount is 16mm, 12point.

2001. 5 2500 4x4.

If someone posts, "well I'm not sure but it might be" you can bet it's most likley wrong! Sorry guys but brain flatulation and posting info is not cool

wtburke,, i need the size of the 2 bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper adapter. you dont have to remove the caliper adapter to get to the pads,,just the caliper. the pads are then exposed and are held in place by the caliper adapter. again,,this is a '01. 5 3500 4x4 which may be different than the 2500's.

i got a set of torx and the T-45 is too small.

T-47 is too large.

closest thing i have is a 1/4 hex bit which would have to be driven in to work.

I need to obtain the service manual to clairfy what your refering to. I have both calipers off my truck at this time. I see the "slide pins" which have corrugated rubber boots as a cover. I have noted the "white grease" within the boots to maintain rust-free operation of these "slide/or glide pins". I have noted the Torx head of these pins. I have a #47 torx but its to large. I would like to remove the pads and I've not been able to. Now I'm assuming that these slide-pins are the correct way. The stainless clip on both ends of the caliper body where the pads end and afix won't allow me to remove the pads. I've tried the push to one side and angle it out... . this doesn't work.

Boy I need a lesson in pad removal... and the service manual

now were talking about the same caliper bolts or pins that have the rubber boot this is bolt/pin i need to find a wrench size/type for.

i have the big manual here and it says nothing about a special tool or what size it is.

1. the caliper must be removed from the caliper adapter by removing the caliper bolts/pins to remove the pads.

2. remove inboard pad at the top first, then the bottom.

3. remove outboard pad at the bottom first,,then the top.

4. reverse for installing.



NOW LETS FIND THE CALIPER BOLT/PIN SIZE !!!!

Yes thank you! I just got off the phone w NAPA they tell me there is no Torx #46. One of the guys said #45 worked for him? But if you've purchased the "Brake Caliper" set of 40, 45 and 50 and we both have tried #47 with no luck... I wonder if it's a Dodge special size?

Darn it... I want to get these dirty dusty pads off my truck... at 32K I'm sick and tired off the "dusting" syndrom.
