Two choices of six speed automatics available: MOPAR in pickup applications and Aisin in cab and chassis. Both seem to be well designed and well built units.

Sure would like the 6 speed but not gonna give up my 5. 9 & fuel mileage for the motor... er oops, I mean engine that goes with it.

:-laf It's a shame they haven't offered the Aisin in the pickups. I can't help but wonder why. Wouldn't it be a nice marketing thing?

Sorry Ryan, couldn't help that comment ;). Hey. . about those transmissions- Its my understanding the Aisin uses a stand alone controller and has PTO capability but other than that do you know how different it is from the 68rfe?

Wonder if it's possible to drop in the Aisin with controller behind a 5. 9 and use a manual trans ECM for the engine??

I would like a lower 1st gear for starting out with weight and have many times wished 2nd with TC locked was lower.

Been looking at this unit:

Dual Range Auxiliary Transmissions, Overdrive and Underdrive as an underdrive so I could have 1st under and 2nd under with TC locked, heck maybe 4th under with TC locked would be sweet for towing.

Probably allot less hassle than a trans swap but not as integrated.

If someone figures out how to retrofit an Aisin into an earlier Gen III w/5. 9 engine and gets it to shift right they'll love it but I don't know if it is better than the MOPAR unit.
