1968 chevy camaro 350 4sp bought for like $600

was in the mid 80's, primer, no interior, lots of work that my dad put into it.

had to sell it because the insurance company was going to drop my parents insurance just because they "owned" it!!! I was starting college and it wasn't even being driven.

I will not forget that and the insurance company that did it!

On the day before my 16th birthday (Aug 92), I bought an '89 Jeep Wrangler Islander with money I had saved from mowing lawns and shoveling snow since I was 10... all that work paid off.

Every high school kid should get to have a Jeep... the girls LOVED it!

It was 1981 and I was 13. My dad's friend had a 197? Pinto with a seized motor that he gave me. Body and interior were pretty nice so I found the same year Pinto with a bad transmission for $50. We started tearing into them and realized that the blocks were different due to a mid year change and would not swap.

I scrapped them both for $50, bought a 1968 GTO, and never owned another Ford. Still have the GTO :D

'78 CJ-7 ... in '83

304 2bbl ... first motor i ever rebuilt ...

quadratrac ...

sunkist orange ...

levi's tan interior ...

hard top ...

rusted out everywhere ... the stealership just painted over the rust bubbles ...

prettiest thing i had ever seen ...

no a/c ... **** poor heater in the winter ...

paid 2000$ cash from my first job ... never had a payment

1967 Impala SS 396 Convertible... . I still have it. I drove it every day for a couple of years in high school before getting a hand me down 90 Dodge Spirit and then senior year a used 97 ram 1500. The Impala has been a total money pit, but it sure is fun to drive on those warm summer nights.

The first car i ever drove regurlary was a '83 escort followed by an '86 Buick Park Avenue. That thing had doors as long as I am tall. My first vehicle i owned was an '89 F-150 I-6 300CID. bought it in 94 with 30,000 and finally sold it Aug 2003 with 80,000. My next purchase was a brand new '01 Ram 2500 gas :{ and that got traded in in July '05 for my CTD

1961 Chevy Impala (sometimes called a bubble top), factory 409 4 speed car. Had a 327 in it when I bought it. Paid $500 in "69" sold it for $500 in 70 when I bought the 70 340 Duster I've still got. Wish I'd have kept the 61, go to EBAY if you've never seen one, I still think they're special.

Nice car, those '61 Bubble tops. Mom and Dad brought me home from the hospital in one. 2dr, 348, triple deuces, 4spd, red on red, SS (only 604 were made). Talk about wishing, Dad sold it after my sister was born to get a family car, if you can call a '67 Pontiac Ventura 2dr hard top a family car. I still have the '67 but would give anything to have that ol' '61 back.

Oh, my first car was a '65 ElCamino. Followed by more rig's than i care to think about ending with my '04. 5 Ram.

'71 Duster 318- now 340

I still have it. Got it in '85 as a $200 beater. Did a resto in '91-92, been racing it and streetin' it since then.

In 1975 I scrapped together enough money working for our neighbor plus my day to buy a 69 Charger 383 4 barrel dual exhaust for $1,100. 16 years old at the time and met my future wife that same summer and married her 4 years later. Wish I still had the car. Still have the wife so it's not all bad. Thanks dad for letting me put gas on from the gas tanks at home, I sure miss yah.

'68 Dodge Coronet R/T - 440 4-speed, 3:90 posi-track, radio, heater, no power steering, no power brakes, 11. 5:1 Jahn's pop-up pistons, Isky hydraulic cam, Carter AFB, hi-rise, headers (w/ dumps), heads ported, polished, milled, and cc'ed - it would bury the 150 MPH speedo (the fastest I ever pushed it was 140 and it still had throttle response left  ) and it'd pass everything but the gas pump. It would also get air under the front tires when you sidestepped the clutch at WOT at a SS. On Fri. and Sat. night I had to carry extra quarts of oil. A very scary car. Pretty cool for a teenager in HS. :D

87 Chevy S10 rc,sb,2wd. Paid $500 to my grandma for it. It had the 2. 5 fourbanger and a 4 speed in it. It was geared real low but would do approx. 115 WOT. Though the 2. 5 wasn't very fast, I pulled a small 4 gang disk around with it. It only got about 15 mpg, but I beat it pretty good. Engine sounded like a diesel it rattled so bad (I think this is common with those engines). Ran until the roll pin on the oil pump gear broke. It just had idiot lights, and they didn't work. I couldn't tell it was running dry because it always sounded that way. So I put new main and rod bearings in it(should have done a complete overhaul). It ran for a couple months until one day it started knocking real bad. Drove it home and tore it apart again. #4 rod bearing had been run dry. Thought about putting a Small Block in it, but decided it wasn't worth the headache. Junked it for $65.

My first car was a 72 Chevy Nova 2 door straight six 250 cu in with a three-on-the-tree. It was $250 from the original owners wife. It had been sitting in a garage for years, and the 1 barrel carb was siezed solid. I spent the next few months(I wasn't old enough to drive yet)getting it road worthy, and putting a set of used Crager SS wheels on it,and a $20 radio in it. I drove it for my senior year in high school, and a year or so after until I bought my first truck. It was a used 88 D150 regular cab short bed 3. 9 litre V6 5 speed stripped down basic truck, but I sure did love the fire engine red paint, and 3" body lift it had so it looked like a 4wd. I miss both vehicles, but probably the truck more.

Also A 71 Plymouth Duster, Mine Came With A Slant 6 I Have Since Put 2 Engines In To First Was A 69 340, Well Spun A Bearing So Had The Block Bored 30 And Put A Stroker Kit In Now Its A 416 Ci. In My Reader Rigs. Still Own. Since I Bought My Truck I Really Have Not Played With It Much :d

1981 Rabbit Pickup diesel. Drove it until it was almost completly rusted away and then sold it to a guy in CA. I never did anything but routine maintenance and got some decent mileage out of it.

$300 1960 Chevrolet pickup. 235 six-cylinder, 3 speed. Rear fenders rusted out so bad I could stick my head through them. Someone had backed into a barn with both doors open so they would swing around almost to the front fenders. Had to keep a rope tied around the steering column to keep the passenger side door closed. I thought I was in hog heaven.

I watched my Mom do that out of the gargage one afternoon, Never saw Dad so mad as when he came home that day

First vehicle (in 1983) was a '65 GMC 3/4 ton pick up with a 230 straight six, 4 speed transmission. Poor thing was so rusty the sides of the box looked like it was shot with a shotgun and there was a rope holding the sides of the box together. Previous owner had riveted sheet metal on the floor drivers side near the door because it was nothing but a big hole. Rocker panels. . who needs stinkin' rocker panels? :-laf

about 12-13 years ago first car was a 75 240d diesel mercedes with a 4 speed from the parents, year or two later i bought a $300 83 rx7 and loved it

I didn't have a car until I was 23 -- bought a 67 VW bug from my brother for $75. Had it one winter on the "trap line" Rt. 2 between Hungry Horse and Snow Slip Inn. Following summer traded it on the 65 Ford F250 4x4 ($1500) with a Western snowplow and sold the plow for $500 -- great tough truck but with 455/456 axles ... . sloooooow and 10 mpg.
