2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission What water temp do you see on gauge?

I have a bad thermostat... wating to spring fro fix. No cab heat. So I installed grill inserts to block off the air flow. Now I have to much heat, can run with window opened. My gauge shows about 180 to almost 190 degrees but never over, I can run all day long. Is the about were I should be? If it would have gone above 190 degrees I would have pulled over and removed 1 or 2 panels. Empty truck not towing or plowing, eastern PA winter, temps avg 30 degrees outside.

180-190 you should be fine. Mine swings between 140-190.

Ok guys I live in AK (thats Alaska) the temps around here are commonly below 0F and my 96 12 valve runs at about 150 to 160 with the radiator completely covered with "hi-tech" cardboard. I only get lukewarm air out of the heater. I replaced the thermostat, had heard my year model had a problem with the thermostat. The new one came from the local cummins dealer it had the same part number as the one I removed. I'm assuming the one I removed was original because I have had the truck since 98 and 20K miles. Right now it has 108K and runs great but would think I could get more heat out of it.

Also sometimes I hear the "tinkle" of what sounds like water or air bubbling through the heater core... . seems like it started last winter and this winter I need to address it. Full on antifreeze etc. Any ideas

SS, I'm curious as to how you know your thermostat is bad. If your gage temps are 180-190, then I would say your thermostat is working fine. You might have a problem with your heating system as far as controlling the cab heat. Changing a thermostat is pretty simple, I definitely wouldn't wait until spring... . but then that's a very long wait where I live. :-laf

I also see 180*, but noticed when covered (with 5 in. hole cut out in the center) it runs 170* ish, on the highway 70-75mph, and on the secondary roads it moves between 170* - 195*.

i have been having heating problems with mine as well. i have been meaning to change the tstat to see if it helps. i have put a ''hitech'' piece of cardboard in front of the radiator and it still doesnt seem to get very warm on the gauge, or in the cab. heater blows warm air, but nothing to make me wanna roll the window down. i recently made a few trailer trips on the highway, put about 900 miles on it over the weekend, with 300 or so with a bronco on the trailer, still didnt seem to get warm in the cab, and it would blow cold air periodically when i had the blower on hi. so i lowered the blower position and if seemed to blow hot air constantly. any ideas? ps. i did the 900 miles minus the cardboard.
