TDR- A great group

This will raise your hair

WD-40 literally stands for Water Displacement, 40th attempt. That's the name straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who developed WD-40 back in 1953. The chemist, Norm Larsen, was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion-a task which is done by displacing water. Norm's persistence paid off when he perfected the formula on his 40th try.

Correct, i leared it awhile ago since my initials are WD i was harrassed about being the inventor of it at work. I then informed them after finding out for myself that it is not named after me, being my name is not Water Displacement

Heard it was developed/invented as a water proofing/anti corrosion spray for the military in order to help keep warheads dry when they were stored in subs and silos as ICBM's. Works great for me. Also, recently read a column in the Business section of the paper about the company being a pretty good stock as far as paying a high dividend and having a good P/E ratio. Also is the parent company for Lava Soap. Two pretty good brands.

WD 40

I did a lot of repair work for a large Bank. I used WD 40 on file cabinet drawers' and desk drawers' roller glides so they would stop squeaking. A year after spaying the glides with WD 40, I was called back to replace the same glides because they had worn out. WD 40 did not lubricate the glides, but removed the lubrication causing failure. It was great job security. :p :p :p

And if you're ice fishing for Lake Trout, bouncing a tube jig off the bottom, I can vouch that spraying a little WD-40 on the jig does seem to attract them a bit (if you're out of sucker meat).

First time a guy told me that, I thought he was trying to ruin my fishing...

Interesting, never heard that before. When I was in the Navy working around missile plants we were not allowed to use WD40 because it was found to actually cause some corrosion because it contained water, I think. We had to use some stuff called CRC something or routher, can't remember the number. It was supposed to be better than WD40. Oh well. This is my first post on the TDR board. Had to finally join. I really like reading through the various posts:D :D

I also heard that since the inventor did not want people to know how he made it, WD40 does not have a patent!!!! I guess you have to show the contents to get a patent. .

I have a shirt that says this, and has a picture of a WD-40 can on it.
