ok guys my truck came with a pinstripe on the side of the truck with a little ram head on the door. Thing is i dont want it. . can i just peel this off or what? Will there be no clear coat under this? what is the deal i want it off.
If it's one of those Ramheads it's likely painted on, but if it's vinyl pinstriping it should be easy to pick around the edges of one end and see if it peels off, which it should, although it may be tedious if it keeps breaking. If it's painted on the body shop would possibly wetsand it so it won't show through. I saw in another post you're repainting your rig for some reason.
i am repainting my truck because chyslers paint jobs are just sad. i can swipe my finger along my truck or any other new ram and scratch the heck out of it. I dont blame DC i blame those #@$%! who :-{} all day about pollution, painting cars makes bad pollution so we all get horrible paint jobs :-{} :{ :-{} :{ :-{}
Yeah it sucks the Pat Blue is so poor on many trucks. It was that way on my 2001, but the Pat Blue on my 2003 is not-notch. . . very scratch resistant and there's a good layer of it.
How long have you had your truck? I am sure you wouldn't be able to tell where the pinstriping was. After removal try some sticky remover to get any residual gunk off.
actually i am really making a big deal about my paint. i am a very picky guy the paint isnt that bad but i need it perfect. i am the kind of guy that will lick my finger to clean my shoe. . plus the truck is going to be a show truck... needs to be perfect.
Use a blow dryer to warm up the pinstriping vinyl first. Then gently work a corner off the end and work your way down. Use the blow dryer as needed and it will make your job much much easier.
The pinstripes are put on AFTER the paint job/clear coating is complete. You should not notice any blemishes as long as you don't mar the vinish while trying to remove the vinyl striping.
I recently removed the dealer emblem that they put on as advertisement on my 04'. It looks as good as new under the emblem once I cleaned it up a bit.
I've also debadged my 01' using the same method without any problems.
Stephen and Vaughan are correct. As new as your truck is the tape should come off realitivly easily and you shouldn't be able to tell it was ever there. A little 3M grease and wax remover will easily remove the sticky residue left on the truck.
I feel left out - I didn't get any pinstriping. I do have a lot of scratches in the paint and I'm very careful not to lean on/over or rub against the body. Looks terrible and won't polish out. Couple of small chips, too. Maybe a good paint job next year.
The body shops and prep guys at a dealer use a hot air gun thats a LOT hotter then a air drier. Pinstripes are changed and removed a lot. Its no biggy. the stuff is cheap and the simple ones are easy to put on. Its designed after sitting in the sun to activate the adhesive. when first put on they just pull right off until the sun gets to them.
I also have the pinstriping on my truck, did'nt reallly care for it at first, but I guess I've got use to it. Thought about removing it, and going back with the barbed wire striping. Any one done this, if so maybe some pics. Oo.
