I have westach gauges and used 22 gage. however this is aircraft certified and a higher quality than automotive wire. you would be safe with 20 gage.

Wire

If this for your 01, what I do is get a "tap a fuse" and go off your fuse box at the dash fuse. If this is for your 03, pull out the dash piece that holds your head light switch. Get a tester and check but I think its the org/ wht wire. Probe and turn on switch then dim/ brighten dash llights to see which wire.

I just put my DiPrico's in about 6 weeks ago. I did not have to take the light switch out. Remove the knee bolster under your steering column. While lying on your back looking up under the dash, on the right side near the dash up high, you'll see a harness coming from the general location of the light switch. I carefully slit the mesh where I could see the wires. Then find the Orange wire with White tracer (stripe). That is your dash lights and will dim the same as the dash lights if you wish. Used a test light on the wire prior to connecting to it. I also used a "Squeeze-on" pig-tail. I know that is not the proper name but it keeps you from having to cut, splice and tape or solder. The pig-tail then had a female connector for a spade connecter to enter. That was it. The hardest part is that you are on your back and working in some tight areas. BTW, that was an '03. I forgot to read the thread first to see what year we were talking about... . Been a very long day...

wire

You do not need to get on your back. unless the 05 's are different than a 04 1/2. pull the small panel that has the light switch in it. Its about 4"x6" it just snaps out pull back the mesh and splice right there.

On the 05' models, the wiring is different at the headlight switch!

I realize the THREAD does not pertain to the 05' model, but someone brought up the 3rd gen trucks.
