I currently have an EZ box, but I want more power. Would I be better off just adding injectors (DD2's), or should I sell my EZ and get a PE Comp? Could I possibly trade my EZ in on the Comp?

If I just added injectors to my current EZ, how would that compare in power to the PE Comp alone?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Just a suggestion... ... ... ... Call Bill K. (DTT) prior to adding and more ponies. You will not believe the difference in how the truck actually feels more connected to the road.

you would be

better off adding the DD2 injectors since they will not stress the pump as much as the PE Comp will.

The PE Comp is a major fueling box that can strain the VP44 pump.

Be advised that the EZ and DD2's are too much for a stock transmission

www.dieseltrans.com can handle the task

Mr. Brewski

you would be close, Cliff in Portland is running the Diablo puck and 275's and he could slip the clutch if he pushed it too hard.

It should be OK

Mr. Brewski - I added my 275's to my VA/PS module about 20k miles ago and my clutch is holding fine. I don't pop the clutch all the time, but I do tow with it and it has pulled fine for me. Clutch has 100k on it.

Thanks Bob and Dave,

I could slip the clutch with a PE on anything over the 1st level. So I put the VA back on. I'll probably do 275's in the near future, and I'll put the boost elbow back on after I'm closer to 100K miles too, where does one fine a boost module? I'll replace the clutch with a South Bend unit when the time comes, but I'm not in any hurry to yard that transmission/transfer case out of there yet.

Buckdog, going beyond an EZ with a by and large stock truck is kind of like going from the slippery slope of BOMBing to stepping off the cliff :D. To decrease (not eliminate) the chances of breaking certain vital parts of your truck you'll need to think about a couple of things. First, gauges (EGT and Boost) to start with. EGT's can run up quite quickly with larger injectors or fueling boxes. Knowing what your EGT's are can keep you from melting your pistons. To help keep your EGT's down, your K&N will help but you'll probably need to open up your exhaust a little - straight piping it is good up to about 350HP. Beyond that you'll need a 4" system, and if you go with both fueling box and injectors, an HX-40 turbo or something equivalent will help as well. The other thing that major fueling boxes (like the Comp) is pierce the injection pump solenoid wire which is a leading cause of cancelled drivetrain warranties. The other big puzzle piece is the transmission, which is good, providing you protect it. As Batman mentioned, DTT (Bill Kondolay) has the best auto transmission stuff out there and will customize the parts to your application. So the bottom line to this diatribe is that power is great, just have to attend to the "weak links" to keep your truck reliable. Have fun!

Well you could go either way. The Comp will produce more power than the EZ and DD2's. A new feature of the Comp, is you can turn it on and off. You can't do that with injectors and/or and EZ.

I get this question alot from customers. Which box, and what do I think I'll want down the road.

By far, try to hold off until you can upgrade your transmission. It won't like the added power, and if you tow anything, you'll slip the lockup for sure.

I would keep the box and add injectors. I had the DDTT first and then added 275's and it made quite a bit of differance. I'm sure the DD2's would be plenty unless you want to go warp speed. Just for your info that combination should put you at least mid 15's in the quarter. Not shabby for a 3. 5 ton truck :D
