Competition 4th gear/lo range for pulling?

Competition SuperCharger Efficiency from Kenne Bell

Seriously, what would it take to hit 130 mph on a 1 mile length of track with a 1st gen. Without factoring in "a miracle","its a brick", the fact that "I'm broke" and all of the sarcasm of the tdr forums not withstanding (which I appreciate) :)

I have seen lots of math around, but I am looking to be fast @ 1 mile and not quick at a 1/4 mile.

In a mile? Seems reasonable from a power perspective but you'll need a govener spring kit and some higher gear ratios. You're also waaay beyond a safe driving speed for a first gen.

Look at the stage1 topic in the first gen forum. Get a BHAF ($40), straight pipe it (free), and find some gears (0-$3000!) and you'll get this done in one mile.

A gear vendors? A 6 speed and big tires? The cummins will torque the square front end through a lot of wind... .

You think 130mph is any safer in a 3rd gen?? :)

Did I say that? :p I'm just remembering the brakes on those old units and I'm glad to have moved on to 4 wheel discs.

Thanks, I would really like to join the 130 mile club out at Bonneville this September and then driving back home and making a run down south with ECTA.

I was thinking 6 speed and the gear venders, they actually have a back to back unit if you have the cash. I don't think wind starts getting factored in until around 150. So I think you are correct about torquing through it. 130 isn't all that fast, been there done that race day morning of the Indy 500 with a T-Bird/SC when the Indiana wolfpacks were at the track, but doing it w/in a mile is different.

Let the bombing begin... ... well... ... after the guages ... ...

with my current setup i could only hit 110 or so, did'nt seem to want to climb after that, got up to that fast really nice, then like hit a brick wall... any ideas?

I'd say you'll have to turn some pretty high RPM's regardless of what you are running for a trans. I'd set it up to turn at least 4000.
