The exhaust is falling off my 2k 2500 I bought here in Mass. I just ordered a Hog replacement exhaust and am concerned the second device under my truck might be a cat instead of a resonator. :( I need to pass inspection. Can anyone tell me what years our trucks came with converters? Was it different per state? Anyone have photos of them for comparison?

A 2000 shouldn't have a cat, my 01 did not. If it looks like a mini-muffler it's a resonator more than likely. If any of them would have it would be a California model.

Did they start installing them earlier and then stop a while? The reason I ask is I've seen threads of people gutting them in 96 or so.

1994-1998 twelve valves from jan 1, 1994 to Dec. 31, 1997 production dates have cats. Cal 2003-2004. 4 235 hp have cats. All 2004. 5-2005 have cats.

So I went to go get my inspection sticker and he said he wouldn't give me one because I removed the cat! I told him there wasn't one and we argued for ten minutes. He said he would settle it by calling the DMV. After being on hold for 15 minutes he agree to give me the sticker. He said next year I'd have to get a cat. Anyone else in Mass have problems with inspections? How can I provide proof it didn't come with a cat?

Sounds like a dumbs**t that knew he was wrong but wasn't big enough to say so.

PM me with an email address where I can send you a PDF file of the page from the model year 2000 parts catalog showing the Cummins/Ram exhaust system. It shows a resonator. It doesn't show a catalytic convertor.

thank god we dont have that craziness here yet.

i think ive cut the cats off of every vehicle i have owned and never looked back... .
