Was the 5 speed transmission ever fixed, I see 2003 and 4 with the 5 speed and figured dodge would fix the 5th gear problem by the, Yes??? when was the kdp fixed?

I've never seen a 3rd gen with a 5 spd. Also, I think the KDP issues were with the 99's and below only. I'm no expert, though.

The 5 speed is a weak box, it should never have been put behind the Cummins. Fixed? Yea, they tried in 98... . and again in 02 but no, it's not "fixed". Yes they did used them up until the middle of 04.

The KDP hole was stepped in the middle of 01 I believe.

Yep, that's why there is a 5600 sitting in my garage waiting to go in. They have improved the 5th gear nut a couple times as mentioned above, but you still can pitch 5th out of it fairly easily. Problem is the 5th gear is on the back of the shaft, so it tries to come off due to the rotation, the 6-speed has it on the front, a lot better design. Get a 5600 truck and forget about it.

The main shaft is also not splined all way and only catches about half of the gear. the fully splined mainshaft seems to hold pretty well I do believe someone correct me ifins Im wrong

Dodge (or New venture) never did fully spline the mainshaft. That is still a strictly aftermarket mod.

Right, and they still sometimes have problems with the fully-splined mainshaft. The only one that is supposed to be almost bulletproof is the "Torque King" set-up from Quad 4X4, that's what I was gonna do till I got the 5600. :D
