since there are a few threads going on regarding the amsoil dual bypass i thought i'd chime in on what i thought you'd need especially if you are considering mounting them with a battery bracket.

FIRST off you MUST buy cpff's (john strenkowski) engine block filter adaptor. the amsoil piece (a piece of what is a better question) is cast aluminum and several folks (yours truly included) have found it to leak. cpff's piece is billet and oil tight. it is adjustable in that no matter where you may want to mount the filters you can point the "out" nozzle in which ever direction you want.

SECOND you should (if you are mounting on the battery) either get cpff's battery mount/box or bill kollmer's battery mount.

THIRD i recommend ss lines with SWIVEL ends.

FOURTH i recommend you DO NOT use the amsoil sampling port. several folks (again yours truly included) have found it to leak. there are several ways you can go. ted kid has suggested a cork for the sampling bottle, a short (sucking tube) and a long tube to go down the dipstick tube... then suck oil out of the pan. cpff also has an apparatus to sample from the dipstick tube. can't recall who off hand recommended this, but i may go with it. go to the nearest hardware store and get a couple of pieces and put on a needle or ball valve. i recommend straight thread.

just trying to help others through my own mistakes... your mileage may vary.

good luck.

OK, So I buy the amsoil kit, then I remove the mentioned pieces. Whats left?? The mounting adapter block where the 2 filters screw in? So who custom makes one of these? If no one, then lets get someone on that.

Then... John and Ted can bundle thier stuff together along with the ss lines and swivel ends and sell a real kit. Costs too much, IMO, to buy the main kit, and then send the same amount again replacing practically everything in there. This is what made my not buy one. I did some posts asking the questions. Got lots of good input from many great TDR members. ( Thanks! ) Then I added up the costs, and for me, its too much.

Seems like you need to go all the way with, the extended drain intervals and analysis. And try to run 50K-100K or more between intervals to make it worth the costs. Only change the oil when analysis says to.

If yer one of those who just can bring themselves to run this far, and you are changing at 10K - 20K intervals with filter changes in the middle. Any your thinking of a bypass kit for the added protection, then I think the costs and apparent quality of the kits doesnt cut it.

slybones...

i spoke with my amsoil dealer and he said you can buy any piece from the kit individually. i am going there today and ask how much it is.

later...

I built my own kit with just the filter block (single bypass mounted horizontal on the crossmember under the radiator) and the return line fitting that threads into the oil fill tube. With ss lines (swivel fittings!) & my own plumbing parts it was cheaper than the kit.

I thought about putting together a kit to sell but been to busy.

If you use ss lines, cover them with plastic loom so the don't eat holes in everything they touch.

Extreme1, maybe you should make a kit or at least identify the main parts. I have the dual mount with the filters mounted on the battery but for several reasons I am thinking about going with a single bypass mounted lower (as yours). There seems to be a bit of a lag in oil pressure build up with the current set up. Maybe it's all in my head but I want some pressure as soon as possible.

This is true. Any Amsoil dealer should be able to help you out as long as you know the parts you want.
