What's a 1st Gen block worth (in ewww condition)

No head. My non-member buddy has one and wants it out of the barn. I don't know what else to say. The top end went bad. It's been sitting for quite a few (at least 5) years. It got water in it. Is it worth its weight in scrap or worth the time to sell?

But lets get serious. The block has an adapter for some kind of transmission. That is worth something. It can be bored and reused but that is pretty expensive with the price of oversized pistons to say nothing of the machining. If it has the pan on it, it is not the same as an industrial and that is worth something. If the cam will come out and clean up, that is worth something. The side cover is different on the trucks and it is worth something to someone building a truck engine from an industrial. Is there a crank? I have salvaged some pretty bad looking stuff and got a couple hundred dollars for the effort. I seriously doubt that it is worth the effort trying to sell it, but if you have a contact that needs it, give it to him and be done with it. When I give something away, I try to give it to someone who will return the favor. That is of course not always possible.

Pull the pistons, polish them up, and sell them as paper weights on ebay!



With the value of scap steel right now it might be worth it to take the loose parts off then sell the rest for scrap.

My issue would be the extent of the rust/corrosion in the threaded areas. In the bottom of the hole you can't clean it up enough to be sure.

As an anchor who cares?
