What's a '93 worth

Have always been a fan of the first gen trucka and now have a chance to buy one from a friend that wants to move into a new one. It's a '93 straight cab 4x4 auto LE, PW PL AC and not sure what else yet. Truck has 207,000 on the clock and nothing done performance wise to it. Paint isn't good and I'm assuming the first gen trucks have the same rust areas under the cab that most of our trucks have had(my last 1st gen body truck was a '91 360 4x4). Frame looks rusty but I haven't been under the truck yet. I also haven't driven it yet although it is his daily driver. The oil has been changed regularly although I don't know about the transmission oil other than it hasn't towed much or been rebuilt. I'd like some opinions as a starting point. Thanks, Mike

Around my area, a truck like that would probably bring any where from $6500-$8000. If it's one thing I learned about buying a 1st Gen, a lot depends on the demand in your area.

I would say if it is in good mechanical shape, that's worth something in itself. My mom's auto has 230K on it, and is developing a few troubles- not as snappy off the line as when I bought it with 140K; mileage is slipping a little. If there is no rust beyond surface rust, I might go as high as $5000; however, rust will bring it down fast. THe paint peeling/ fading isnt that big a deal. How long has this guy had the truck? HOW does he drive it? I know some people you couldnt GIVE me a vehicle they drove daily. Check the tires for uneven wear, and make sure the front end is tight. Brakes, diff fluid changes (esp on LSD), u joints, oil leaks under the hood/ drivetrain also make a difference in how much it is worth. These pickups will go a million miles, but they have to be taken care of, and keep in mind the condition the rest of the truck. I bought my 91 for $3500; a decent deal for this area. I've had to put a few things in it.



Hope this helps. Not to diss dusthomps, but it better be in GOOD shape to bring $8000 with over 200K.

I paid around $5k($5300???) for my 93 CC with 248k miles, interior was in great shape, a little rust out on pass side rocker, paint looks great but is getting thin..... truck appeared to have been very well maintained, trans just rebuilt, new brakes and tires all round... great stereo also

No offense taken. Like I said, area seems to affect price. A good example is I paid $8500 for my 91 with the body in decent shape and taken care of very well by the original owner. A friend of mine paid $6000 for a 93 D250 that had some minor rust, some transmission troubles and 206k. If I lived either out west or down south, I'd have one more 1st Gen. I can't believe the prices on some of those trucks for sale and most have a great body. In northern WI these truck bring some good coin, even if not in the best shape.

I paid $8000 for my 93 LE Club Cab auto with 130,000, a K&N filter, A set of Cooper tires with less than 500 miles on them a set of studded BF Goodrich tires w wheels. Body wise there is very little rust only a couple of small spots in the lower front fenders. No dents nor major damage. Here in Anchorage it is hard to find anything without rust.

Well, it is a relative thing, in relation to how much you want it and how much can you afford.



Personally for me, I just couldn't swing the bucks for a second gen, and bought our '93 CC dually TDR for $6800 with recent black paint, Eagle polished rims and 1 owner (oh, Southern California truck with NO RUST!).



We really enjoy our first gen, and use it more than we thought. Haven't really done any mods other than advance the pump (with help from Demon Dodge) and are getting 15 mpg running around town. Best we've seen so far is 17. 8 mpg.

I don't know what the exchange is now but I have seen LE's sold on a lot here in BC for 21K. That blew my mind...



On the other hand I would not even talk to someone for less than 20K, considering the shape and work done... besides, I just love the ole gal... . no my wife, ya that's it...

I had a 93 350 club cab 4x4 and in my opinion they are worth their weight in gold. As long as they have been treated right under the hood and in the drivetrain, they never stop running. I had a 92 with 260K on it that still got 24 mpg, 17 mpg towing an 8000# travel trailer, and only had a small oil leak. If you are looking for a truck that will just work non stop and never stop, first gen is the way to go. My 93 sold for $15K to the second guy who looked at it with 95K miles on it (in CA). My 92 (350 2WD, reg cab) sold for $5300. They hold their value pretty good. I didn't have any rust, though. Oh, and I miss my 93 like nothing else!!:{

The area really does seem to make a difference. I just bought my 93 for $3550 with 227k. Its not a bad truck, just needed some maintenance done. My last truck was 92 cc dually and I paid $4600 for that one. I also just found an 89 for $1500 and plan on picking it up next week (its got a week injection pump). If you look hard and be patient the deals are out there. You can see my 93 in my gallery.

Checked it out closer

Took a look at it today and the drivers rocker is through and passenger fender is going and the oil leak from the rear main is keeping the floor rust free although the seams around the cab braces are showing some blistering. The underside of the bed is mostly intact but the bed has some dings. The thing underneath shows its age and the paint is not good. What transmission is in these?(Auto) I don't know what gears it has either. The front end is covered in road dirt from grease and oil so I'm not sure about the condition of the steering. If I remember these had the steering pumps and boxes that leaked, right? Interior is used for the year and looks its age. But it's still a good starting point, right. Keep the opinions coming. #@$%!
