Hey guys, this is only my 2nd post. I just bought my first Cummins last week and I love it!! So far I have purchased a few goodies for it but am looking for a toolbox. I saw a member with a 3rd gen that had a low profile black toolbox that caught my eye, but can't seem to find any info on his truck again. Do you know something like this that will work on a 2nd gen? It looked as though it set ontop of the bed rails and was make of black plastic, but only sticked up a few inches. Thanks for any help or info.

I am also looking for info as to what types of headlight bulbs these trucks have for the low beam specifically. Thanks.

I bought a Delta from Lowes and cary probably 200+lb or so in it all the time and have had no problems. It only sits 3in above the bed. It was dented so I got it for under 200:).

Third vote for Protech right here. Stay away from anything plasic that sits on the bedrails. They don't have the structural integrity to carry any weight and tend to fold in the middle. It ain't pretty.

I have the same box that they show in the red truck on Highway products web page. Very well built and heavy duty. Right up there with Protect. The box is huge and only about 1/2" above box rails. It sits on the floor of the bed. Very water proof also.

Our aluminum Weatherguard below-the-rails 5ver box has been bulletproof. No loss of the black coating, no dents, no leaks, no problems. It's not cheap, but quality seldom is.

I have a Better Built chest, mounted on bed floor. It does not rise above the bed rails.

FWIW, you may consider a silver box and having the top sprayed with a bed liner material. I did not like the reflection from the chest top through the back window when I did not have the cap installed. I finally went with spray can undercoating to see if I liked the look of a two tone box. I is pretty durable, easily "repaintable" and was a lot cheaper in the long run.

I have two wheel well boxes forward of my wheel wells on each side, and two drawer boxes (Geneva) that mount with the door tight against the tailgate when closed up. They are as wide as the width of the wheel wells. You can store a tun of tools in the drawers & everything else in the wheel well boxes - This set up still leaves full usage of the 4' x 8' bed space. Only problem, you'll have to drill out & install new anchor points in the bed as the original will be covered up. Had them for 4 years & still happy with 'em. .

I found these at Northern Tool supply. Relatively inexpensive-

I use a UWS (United Welding Sevice) toolbox in mine. While mine is the full-height style, I know they make the low-profile type boxes and they are top quality. Mine has never given me a lick of trouble in over a year of service.

I've had both Delta and Weatherguard. Both boxes have taken some abuse. I don't think the Weatherguard is quite heavy enough. the lid is bowed in from haybales be sat on it while stacking them on the truck. Other than alil problem with the latches the Delta was a good box. just didn't need anymore when I got my truck.

I have to agree with Seed Guy and Chipstien . Protec makes the thickest gage box on the market,I believe its . 125 thick. They will custom make anything you want. You get what you pay for.

And another vote for Pro-Tec. Figure on $500 - $700 bucks for the box. I have spent hours standing on the lid of mine in the pits at sprint car races. Normally it's my wife and I (I'm 200+ lbs) and quite often a third will join us... (on the tool box guys!). No dents, no bends, no leaks. I sometimes stand on my light bar and jump down on the tool box lid when I need to make a quick exit. Just think about doing that to the boxes as your out looking.

I got an extra deep cross bed box from northern tool and it is a very good value for $250. It really is deep I can set my honda EU-2000 in it very easily. I suppose there is still about 4" underneath it if I want to haul 4x8 sheets with the tailgate up.
