What is the safe boost level for an 06 truck without hurting the turbo? What's a safe boost for head and gasket.
Thanks,

well the stocker is basically out of its effientcy map at about 32psi, I have my TST and wastegated at 35 and I dont plan on going past that. Zero problems so far.

3rd Gen max safe boost levels

Isn't it generally accepted that the 3rd Gen's can handle 50 psi or less with the newer composition headgaskets? My 2004. 5 has a Industrial Injection SPS66 turbo and it's wastegate is set right about 50 psi. I've had it for about 20,000 miles with no problems.

However, I always allow my engine to warm up completely before I lean on it. I eventually plan on adding headstuds for protection but then again I'm not towing at high boost levels either.

Other comments anyone?

Nah, not on the 600 series engines. Most boost foolers set the limit at 40 psi for the stockers and the turbo does a pretty good job of cooling at that level. These turbos have pretty big compressor wheels on them and flow pretty decent at 40 psi. The biggest no-no is dumping the boost fast when it is high. They tend to snap the shafts and mess things up. Ease out of the fuel and they last a lot better.

I should of added for towing purposes. My friend has an 06 dodge cummins and a camper simular to mine at about 10,000 lbs. Neighter one of use race so advice for towing.

We just installed an Edge Juice/Attitude on his 06 and are looking for advice on keeping the truck happy while towing. So if he sets the boost defuel parimeter to 39 PSI he should be o. k. ?

Thanks,
Ron

From your post, it appears you're being cautious... . i'm pretty conservative with my expensive toy... some will say 35 some will say 45... it's all personal opinion... . i say 38...

And test out the low boost fueling (LBF) feature..... i would think a little more fuel down low would help...

Thanks guys sounds like we're on the right track. We set all the low boost in each level to 3 which is mid range. Except level 5 we put on low boost 5 just in case we need it nontowing. :-laf

One of the things that really sold us on the Edge Juice/Attitude is all the features it has. Really nice for towing with the boost, EGT, and transmission slip defuel features. I/we can set our parimeters to safe levels and just tow. By watching the defuel for transmission slip on the monitor we can judge which levels of power are friendly towards towing and which are not. Then adjust power levels accordingly.
