I was looking at one of the threads the other evening and followed the link to Daniel Stern's headlamp/lighting website. I requested info on the headlight BOMB for our trucks. He responded that the Sport headlamp was more desirable to have.

So what's the difference? Is the sport headlamp fixture made of glass rather than plastic? If anyone has a "sport" model please check and respond!

Thanks, Rich:rolleyes:

Great White

The sport light are plastic. Besides the lens being clearer. They use four bulbs instead of two. When on high beam all four bulbs use the high filament. on low beam only the outer bulb. I bought the lens covers from Geno's to protect them from sand and rock damage. The covers would work on the regular lights too.

After having had both (I have a '98. 5 Sport... they came with the older design SLT headlights :( ), I prefer the newer '99+ Sport lights, both aesthetically and functionally.

Adding PIAA 9007 and 9004 Platinum Series Super White bulbs and the "special" Brite-Box helped too.:cool:

The sport lights use 9004 in the outer and 9007 in the inner locations. The PIA lights will work. I have 100/55 in the outer

and 100/80 in the inner.

That's not exactly correct. The Sport headlights use the 9007s as low/high beams, 9004s as high beams only. The high beams are located at the inner most position.

Standard SLT headlights use the 9004 bulbs for low and high beam use.

Groundpounder, if you have a '94 through '98. 5 Ram Brite-Box makes a "special" version of their standard Brite-Box that adapts the existing headlight wiring to the required Sport headlight wiring (i. e. , "plug-and-play" no screwing around). This "special" Brite-Box can be purchased through Geno's Garage (although it's not advertised in their catalog).

I've got a bad seal in one of my lights that has caused it to haze up with condensation and dust. Also, because of this, if I use my high beams too long, the bulb on that side will explode. So, I don't use my high beams at this time. I could replace that lens fixture, but this is the perfect excuse for upgrading to the sport headlights.

Okay, let's say I wanted to retrofit a pair of sport headlights on to my '97. I know I would have to drill a hole behind each outer light (just guessing, it looks like maybe 3"), per Scott Dalgleish's article in a TDR a few years ago. '98 and up trucks already have the hole there. That's no big deal, the wiring sounds simple, as John noted, with the special bright box. SO, the question is: where do I find a set of sport headlights? I bet the dealer charges an arm and a leg for them. Anyone know anybody with a wrecked (totaled) sport model that they're parting out? Anyone know of a junkyard that might have them? Is there any kind of on-line wrecking yard database website where I can search for a pair? Otherwise I guess I'll do it the old fashioned way and pick up the phone book. TIA for any info.

Andy,

You might try here. I found this as a link on Piers new site, looks like he has an affiliation with this wrecking yard.

Wouldn't mind having a set of quads myself :D
