I need you guys opinion. I have a guy that I work with on a bunch of Mercedes that he owns. I charge him $50. 00 hr for labor on his cars. (I normally charge $65. 00 hr for most others). I just sold a vintage Vw- Okrassa equiped engine for him on ebay for $4,000. It was a real hassle as the guy that bought it lives in Canada. I handled EVERYTHING from listing it with taking pictures to handling the money transfers. I had atleast 12-15 (+) hours into it. I also listed three other cars that didn't sell as he set (what I think as too high) an upper reserve price.
I told him that 10% was what I wanted for selling the engine and $300. for listing the three cars, fielding questions from mumble *$ck ebayers.
He told me that he thought 5% was good commission. $200. 00 for a months work on selling the engine isn't enough in my book.
Yea..... SHAME on me for not clarifying the terms BEFORE I listed them.

Any opinions from the opinionated masses at TDR???

10% is normal for a consignment, which it what you technically did, but everything's always about negotiation... . hit him back at 9%, and then settle in on 7. 5 or 8%. Next time negotiate IN ADVANCE though!

I know a guy that goes to auctions looking for specific makes pre-ordered from customers he charges $2000. 00 a car (usuallyy looking for BMWs... ).
