In my opinion Texaco has some nerve calling it diesel fuel.
I have used it 2 times in many years, one time i got a lot of water, the second time (hard up for fuel) two of us running together and both of us barely made it back home with the junk. I will not use Texaco unless I just have to to try to keep going. And then it may stop the engine for good!!

I have kept track of every ounce of fuel that I have run through mine since it was new. I have tried to always use the Quick trip across the river from me it is a pretty busy truck stop and I go through the "BIG TRUCK" lanes. to date I have run 824. 39gal, payed $1246. 39 for it and overall averaged 18. 87...
MPG. that is pretty good however my 95 auto got well over 22MPG.

EMPTY...

illflem, I use the leaded in my '41 Willys blown gas coupe "street" car. I can buy 100 octane unleaded pump gas from my local 76 station. It still doesn't seem to do the trick,so I buy 76 leaded 110 out of their drums for $4. 50 a gal. They also sell 118, but I don't need that to prevent detentating.
MikeR, its interesting that your truck runs worse on Calif fuel. I expierenced the same thing on Arizona and Colorado fuel, and it ran better on Calif fuel. I wonder if our trucks memory system adjusts for what we normally drive? Anyway, I still would like it if they showed the cetane rating on the pumps.

I have been following this fuel discussion with quite a bit of interest. I keep meticulous records on fuel and maintain a spread sheet with all the data. I can't seem to determine that I can get consistently better or worse mileage with any particular brand. However, a short while ago my wife filled up at the Love's where we generally fill and after about 20 miles it started running really rough and couldn't maintain a speed over 60mph. I changed the fuel filter for the first time (55k miles, no siginificant dirt in canister and no water). This seemed to fix the problem as it has run fine since. I noticed though that that particular tankful yielded 17. 23 mpg vs my average 19 plus mpg.
My theory on the long change interval was that if there is no water showing when you bleed the filter and is running fine then leave it alone.

Question - does anyone know what the color of the filter paper is on the factory filter? My replacement Luberfiner filter was white but the one I removed was a very dark brown, nearly black color which makes me think it was picking up a lot of varnish and gunk.

Interesting topic. What we could use is some type if dye that would take the red out. At a cost of about . 05 cents gallon. I have read somewhere that a farm equipment auction is a sure place to get your tank dipped. MPG 18. 6 winter 20. 5 summer.
