What kind of modifications will it take for my truck to run high 14s in the quarter mile? I ran high 16s with stock injectors, dv's, and and a centered 10 plate. My truck weighs about 6900#.

So I am looking to knock off 2 seconds. Will I be getting close with the new mods?

Not much im guessing.

Just a point of reference I ran a 14. 82 on my 24V with only a edge drag comp box. I also have a DTT billet transmission and 20 psi launch's sure help, also loose the muffler and air filter.

A lot will depend if you can get that 2wd dually to hook up. These things make so much low end torque it can be a challenge .

One year at LACR at a charity race I smoked my 12. 50x35 16. 5's through the traps in 5th gear... ... ... ..... whoops. Oo. Took me 4hrs to get all the rubber off the sheet metal, forget about the fender liners.

The biggest part will be getting a good launch with that 2wd, it will take around 400-420 hp to get into the high 14s. I tried drag racing my old 97 2wd cc 3500 with a 5spd the best I ever ran was a 16. 03 with 415hp but I could only take off at idle or it would blow the tires every time. Slicks are about the only way to get a good launch with a 2wd good luck.

Those of you that have drag raced a 2wd, can you list your ET's and the

modifications you had. Also if you dyno'd your truck, list your #'s.

The goal here is get enough input to help get a rough idea of what modifications it takes to cover the 1/4 mile in a given time and speed. Please list all times fast or Slooow.

Mine: DTT transmission, centered #10, timing @15. 5*, 3k gov springs, stock injectors and dv's, drop-in K&N, stock exhaust w/cat no muffler.

16. 93 at 80. 50 mph-dyno'd 244. 8.

Might be worth looking at a selectable locker for the rear axle. ARB makes an air opperated locker, and ox-locker makes a cable opperated locker. This way you can have nice pavement manners and still have ultimate traction when you want also. Maybe someone will add their 2 cents about some good slicks or nearly slicks that you might also improve traction with.

I ran my 99 QC 2WD, 3500, 4. 10 gears posi, 5spd.

hp/tq 404/920 and the scales at my local dump said truck was 6900.

60 ft 2. 239

330 6. 402

1/8 9. 634@75. 77

1/4 14. 720@96. 95

I would do a good burn out, then dump the clutch at about 1200 rpm in second gear. But I had the posi/lsd rear.

I also took my 96 in sig below to the track running only 350/800, and put up a 15. 1. But 4wd was the only way to get traction.

Call PIERS, tell him what you have and ask him what you need to get about 400 rwhp with a 95. I would think a set of DV's and 370's would do it.

Have fun, Ken

Well when i ran the "lil fat truck" i came out with a 1/4 15. 406 @ 89 mph, 1/8 9. 351 @ 74mph . i weigh about 6850 and was runing a set of 305-70-r16 for tires. so i was slinging some rubber. run some small tires it helps. My setup is DD 2's and a PM3 im at 338/774 with 3. 54 gears no lds/posi. i leave the line in 4wd at about 10psi. just my 2c

KennyM,

Those are pretty respectable track numbers for a 2wd. What modifications did you have?

On 12-17-04 I had 181 dv's, 300 marine injectors, and a custom fuel plate installed. Next weekend I will be attending a dyno event in Rohnert Park,CA on Jan 15th. This will give me idea of where I am hp wise.

My 96 2wd 2500 would turn 14. 00 at 101mph with 370's no plate and a shot of nitrous with a 125 jet. that was with the stock turbo and trans with a manual lock up switch at 2500 ft.

Just updating this old thread...

This weekend I found what it takes for my 2wd truck to cover the 1/4 mile in under 15 seconds. Most of you were right on with your suggestions. To cut off 2 seconds I added 100 hp and a Dana Powr Loc. The added power came from 370's, 181's, Ponci's custom fuel plate, Dodgezilla and flowmaster exhaust. I also removed the tailgate, extra battery, and the spare tire.

My son was driving the truck (I was at a Nascar race) and this was his first drag racing event. He had several runs in the low 15's, but he was able to pull out 1 run in the 14's.

14. 9 @ 90mph with a 2. 3 60'. This was with a 2-3# boost launches and 20# of air in the rear tires. He still claimed he had traction problems. So I guess a set of slicks might be next.

I dont think slick will be much help if your best is 14. 9 at 90mph. Id worry about slicks once your in the mid o low 13's which is easy in a 2wd 12V

If the the tires are getting blown off... ... ... of course slicks will help. The 60ft time is the easiest place to get the most gain in ET reduction.
