Hey,guys I am in need of my next step. I am towing 13000# in the west. So needless to say alot of steep hills to pull. I have been getting my butt kicked by the DMAX and just want to let them know how much and what you can do with a CTD. What would be my best bet? Edge box or Injectors or ????? I realize with any substantial power increase I will be in need of a new transmission. But I do'nt have the $$$$ for that yet. I am waiting till the first of the year and am going to have Fred Swanson install DTT TC VB. But until then I need more power and torque, any response to what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

I went with Stage 3 injectors. Dollar for dollar you get more out of a Box. It seems that the EZ comp is the most favored. With this set-up you get about 90 horse power. With my injectors you get about 100. The difference is that a box is about $600 and my injectors were about $800. There was a core charge for my injectors and I did not turn them in. I want to be able to reinstall my injectors if I need to in the end. The pros to using injectors over boxes, power delivery is smoother. Less chance at jacking up you drive line. The injectors follow the stock power curve. Not the same hp or torque but just the curve. The box hooks you up at a lower RPM. Therefore you driveline takes a big hit early.

Can't say which one will destroy you drive line over time as only time will tell.

I tow a 5th wheel and my injectors hook me up rather nicely. I live in So CAL and can stay in Cruise from San Diego to Seattle eating Power strokes and GMs the entire way.

Get those guages....

On the power side, I would go with DD2's and their TTPM. It is a rebadged EZ with slightly different specs. (This is the most "useable" towing package in my opinion. ) Your transmission won't like all of the new found power. Bill Kondolay is"the Man" to talk to in that department In My Opinion.

Don't forget to do something to improve fuel delivery to the VP44 or at least put a fuel pressure guage on to monitor the stock set up. If nothing else, the guage will tell you when it is necessary to change your fuel filter if installed post filter.

PM me if you have other thoughts you want to discuss.

Thanks guys, I think I will go with the injectors DDII or 3s can you

let me know where I can get them at the most reasonable price.

Deffinately get the DD3's. Much more usable power for towing as boxes tend to be too much too fast. I paid under 6 bills for mine..... check out this for prices on injectors. Can't beat em. :)

Dmundell, this is just my opinion, but i wouldnt do anything until you can afford the trans mods,if your pulling big hills, towing then your transmission will not be able to handle the dd3's. Mine slipped with just an EZ,and no trailer stock. Some of these autos can take a littel extra HP. some cant,do you feel lucky? If you must do a mod i would say 275 injectors, until you can afford trans mods, you will gain about 50hp/100 ft lbs, your trans should be able to take this,no way will it hold up to dd3's when towing. Do it right.

Dmundell ,

I am a little late answering your where and cheap but...

I got mine from Janetty Racing. They are listed in the "links" on the toolbar for the TDR site. I think the price has fallen since I got mine. I paid $700 and there was a core charge of $100. I kept my original injectors so I had to eat the core charge too. I like to keep the originals just in case.

Snow thinks your transmission will slip. I jumped back up and saw you have 4. 10's. I think you're fine. If you had 3. 54's I would agree more with Snow. His point is still valid none-the-less. You would think that all trannies are alike, this just doesn't seem to be the case. You might have one that hooks up and then you might not.

I have a 5spd so there is less chance of a problem. If I had a 6spd there more than likely would be a problem. Go figure. 6spd only goes with the HO engine. Makes me scratch my head in wonderment.

Before you get those injectors, you might want to get that transmission worked on. It will not hold a stage 3 injector stock. I would look at getting an edge comp, and leave the pump wire unattached, untill that transmission work gets done at the first of the year.

Just my $0. 02,

Andrew

I put in a set of DDII's about 2 weeks before i got my trans upgraded and the engine was all stock. I dont think the clutch packs were slipping but the TC was for sure. My trans had bout 40K on it at the time. At full throtle there was enough line pressure to hold the power but at half or less it would noticeably slip:{ The trans is expensive, but MAN, What a DIFFERENCE!!:--)

Thank you guys. Sounds to me like I will hold off until first of the year and get the trans work done first and go from there. Now here is one what do you suggest DTT or ATS I am leaning toward DTT as has been around much longer and is proven. It's alot of money just want to do it right the first time.

I love my DTT as do many other members on the TDR, however, I really like that idea of that ATS tripple lock converter. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I would be more concerned with picking a good shop to do the install. Scott at massdiesel put my DTT transmission in and did a great job. Only problem is his shop is about 5-6 hours from me!

No matter which one you pick, it will be 10 times better than the stock setup!!:) Good luck!

Fred Swanson has done everything on my truck. He put on the HX 40, DTT transmission upgrade, injectors. He is a very honest and fair guy. Tell him what you want to do with your truck and he will know what you need. If you are in 29 Palms ever, come by for a good ride. You will never look at your truck the same. Just don't drive Fred's truck. That is what Bill K told me before I went out there. I'm glad I don't listen to everything he say's... ... ... . Greg
