Hey guys, I've got a question about the 3k governor spring kit.

Let's say that a person installed one in a '95 Ram w/ a 5 speed and after the install the truck didn't feel any different.

In neutral the truck won't rev past 3k, maybe 3050 but that's it.

In 5th gear the truck is all done at about 85-90 mph (around 2600 RPM).

For some reason I was expecting a good hard pull to right around 100mph (about 2900-3000 RPM), am I confused as to what the 3k GSK really does, or is there possibly something more serious wrong here?

BTW with the stock springs the truck ran EXACTLY the same. Same "High Idle" and same max MPH.

I talked to Piers about this earlier today and he said to tighten the retaining nuts one click each which I am going to do tonight.

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Mike

somthing is not right... before 3k i would de-fuel around 2600 after 3k i de-fuel at 3120 and it pulls hard making smoke all the way to de-fuel rpm.

dbl check your install and adjust the retainer nut 1 or two clicks in. chances are you may have miss measured the nuts location with the stock springs and the new springs are not in the same position as the stocks were.

best of luck..... let us know how it goes.

RPM

Check to make sure your throttle is opening all of the way? I ended up after the recall on my throttle cable, putting a couple zip ties on the throttle cable down by the pedal and then i could get wot!!Oo. After the install of my 3k kit ny truck will rev to 3800rpm no load and 3500 going through the gears. :D

'94 & '95 pumps defuled way earlier than the '96-'98. 4 trucks. Mine revs like nfoxes after the kit. Piers told me 2 clicks, don't bother measuring. I measured mine and it wan't right. Did the 2 clicks (full clicks) and it ROCKED!

I chickend out at 3200 rpm and it was still going strong... . before the GSK it was defueling about 26-2700 . . best $$ spent so far.

Some pumps are different. Some earlier pumps had heavier weights in the gov. This would lead to earlier de-fueling. SO either tighten down the springs a little more, or you can run a 4k GSK. You have to be careful not to tighten too much because your idle will get messed up.
