Hmmm... good question! But, they sure are perrty.

I edited the post because apparently my attempt at a smiley face (the way I usually make them) caused a red angry-looking face. hehe

Sorry to disappoint you guys but I have no clue as to what the differences are.

Guess I'll have to do some research.

for a comparable price, mark? i think we would rather give you the biz if it's close. or is that what you use for a stage 2, etc? thanks for piping up.

dave

absolutely... . Since I'm looking for a good head to build on anyway. I read that late model 2nd gens are a great heads to build up with. How does the marine head compare?. And what are exhaust rotators? Are the hardened seats similar to what gassers did to their heads when the lead was taken out of the gas? Are hardened seats going to be the sharp call when we go to low/no sulfer diesel next year?

Dave,

Yes, we have very competitive prices. Give me a call and remind me and I will fix you up.

No, we don't sell those heads as a stg 2 or even a stg 1. Those heads flow only slightly better than a stock head but do come with slighty higher nickle content, hardened seat areas, HD exhaust valve springs and rotators (the spring washers that the keepers ride on).

Stg 1 heads are ported and polished in the bowls and exhaust runners to flow more more air and a stg 2 is ported and polished even more for even more flow and HD valve springs installed on the intake valves. Stg 3 (compitition only) is ported to the max and machined for larger exhaust valves that are installed.

Yes, the hardened seat area's are very simular to what they did for the gassers to handle the no lead fuel and will handle the lower sulfer fuel better over the long run than a regular head.

Hope this answers your questions.

Ahhh Mark, how much horsepower do you have now? You Readers Rigs gives the old numbers, whats the new?

Robert

P. S. Sorry to barge in on the thread, especially off topic.

hey mark, i was wondering if you used them as a base for the different stages normally, or if that would cost extra. and yeah, how are your project(s) coming? we need to know.

hey for you guys the valve rotators are a small ball bearing setup that rotates the valves every time they close to keep them wearings the faces even and to help prevent burndt valves

My dad had a problem with Cummins accidently installing a head with rotators in his C series 8. 3. They replaced it under warranty when he lost a valve after about 1000 miles. They told him it was a no-no to have rotators in a street driven vehicle. Something about inadequate cooling due to not having the water-jacketed exhaust manifolds.

Disclaimer - This is second hand info from my dad who, on more than one occasion, has failed to give the whole story.

So do all the marine heads have the rotators or just the 370 hp version?

(I haven't had the valve covers off my 270 yet)

Jay

Hey Bill,

Oh, 495hp in low power mode and about 700hp in high power. :D

P. S. Make note not to put truck in high power mode with TC locked up and stick foot to floor. :--)

Hey Swank,

Not going too crazy yet, as my truck is scheduled for paint and body work at the end of May, so I need to be able to drive Tubby when my 93 is in the body shop. I hope to put new engine in Tubby by July.
