I agree. I wouldnt use a channel unless I listened on it for a few days. I know most people wouldnt do this, but this is just me.

Around here there is a lot of Coast Guard activity, and I've heard these guys on frequencies very close to the CB channels.

I also wouldnt reccoment anyone go past 27. 500 Mhz. Youre very close to 10 meters, and if youre running power, you'll splash them!!

I'd also stay away from 12 meters. I believe that's around 25. 000 Mhz.

I pride myself on operating professionally (even on 19), but I exercise extra caution near the ham frequencies. They've earned the privilage to work those freqs, and I havent.

Not only that, youre looking at a hefty fine if youre cought there!

In order to put an antenna on a fiberglass top, I believe you need to go to a marine mount and antenna.

Cam If mount an antenna like that you will need to run a ground wire to the truck as short as possible.

I would like to thank everybody that took the time to respond to my request about a CB. I do have some thoughts on this: I don't want to say that money is no object in the choice of a radio and antenna system, but it is not the determining factor. I only want to by once and had rather spend more money up front and get a really good radio, than have to buy twice. I am looking hard at the Magnun DeltaForce. I also liked the question about the through the glass antenna. Anyone know if this is possible? I also think that more power would be a good thing. I am not very gabby and will seldom ever talk on the radio, mostly will listen, but when and if I may have something to say, I sure as hell want to be heard. Can you still buy linear's? I know that you can get into trouble with them, but as I say I will seldom use the talk switch. Thanks again Gunny

Gunny, There's a company down in texas that sell's them I'll talk to my bubbyand get the web site, there about a dollar a watt. Also keep in mind the more power you have it will help you recieve your signal better.

Gunny, the glass mounts never worked too good, again I was into this some years ago. They may have improved since then.

Linear for Sale; Patriot's 88, dr64's ranger

Ok, Patriot, i thought your 88 had 1 final. That's what I had heard, that the 99 was the only galaxy that came with 2 finals. :-{}

I have a Palomar Elite linear 600 for Sale: $250 will ship. Tested out by Hop's CB (one of the nations better CB techy at 510 w on high, also has low:110 watt, and med:250 watt with high drive (enhanced reception); used about 3 years;. Reason I want to sell: I bought a Messenger 500 to replace it. (Messenger is USA made high end

I would forget the through the glass thing, gunny, nothing but trash that looks good there. I'm not sure if you could use a fiberglass mounting (your topper??) have to ask someone else (?might if you were really able to ground it to the frame) Th e flat plane on your roof may be the best, I had a stereo guy do it by taking the liner loose. I had one on the side of the cab behind the front door on my ext cab "95 power humper, but a cb techy told me it really received and send best in one direction (accross the roof ) I don't understand it but it's better if it has a ground plane. The one on the power humper worked ok, though. Presently I have a wilson 3000 on my dodge that works pretty good, but some techys don't like wilson's some do. If you do get a linear, make sure you power it with big enough cable (I use #4s to my battery thru a circuit breaker). Even a good size radio should have #6s (I'd put 2 of them to my radio. ) If the radio or linear can't get enough power it will cause big expensive problems.

There is a lot of good antenaes out there. I have 2 off-brand small company ??name??? antenae on my Peterbilt 379 that cost $47 each that work great with power and are still flexible to bend when you run into a tree branch. Like I said earlier, Francis builds a good cheap (fiberglass ) antenae for $20. The Francis will handle wattage but not too efficient (a good spare)

Galaxies are the proven radio, the trucking industry standard.

Delta Forces are more of a young (really unproven) unstart trying to compete with Galaxy. :-{} The old Cobras were real good, new ones trash (like mentioned previous
