Building a pulling tractor , what diesel fuel makes the most horsepower ?

pump fuel ?

home heating oil ?

cobination of both ?

pump diesel with howes in it ?Oo.
 
i believe diesel is about the same, unless it is winterized diesel which is lower in cetene. i would assume that the puller are running, meth or something else piped in after the turbo.
 
On the west coast the Cetane index for EPA is 44, but here in Ca it's 51.



Probably the only thing good about living in the liberal nerve center:mad:.



If you own a second gen 24V and running 44 (Oregon, Washington) You really notice it in vibration when idling. Cross into Commiefornia get some CARB diesel and the motor will have a noticeable change.



I never noticed any change when it came to power or economy though.

Here in the great state of Maine (before ULSD) #2 was the same fuel, only no road tax for home heating or off-road use.

#1 is Kerosene or K-1 depending on locale.



My Monitor heater in the garage requires K-1, #2 Diesel would trash it. :{



It is interesting to note that in Maine there is no sales tax on the #2 fuel that I heat the house with but there is 5% sales tax on the K-1 for the garage.



I called the state to ask what was up with that, response was as follows **



"Your garage is not considered living quarters (it seems it sometimes) and has no bedrooms, therefore it is a taxable sale"

I then said "The garage is attached to the house and I could simply open the door and heat those cold bedrooms with the heat from the garage".

State replys "Doesn't matter, it will be taxed".

My last shot was "So if I put another zone on my home furnace and plumbed that zone for my garage with radiators for heat would you charge me sales tax then?"

"No, because your home heating system is not taxable even if you heat the garage with it".



Just gotta' love the thinking in government, don't ya????

LESSON / INFORMATION:
Diesel fuels are classified 1D, 2D, and 4D. Low speed, stationary units use 4D fuels. 4D fuel is not appropriate for most mobile equipment. On-highway and mobile equipment use 1D and 2D fuels. High speed diesel engines use either 1D or 2D fuels. Important characteristics of diesel fuels are its viscosity, pour point, and cetane number. The primary differences between 1D and 2D fuel are the pour point and the viscosity. Pour point is the lowest temperature at which a liquid will flow. Viscosity is the resistance of a liquid to flow. A 1D fuel is designed for cold weather operation; thus, it is less viscous and has a lower pour point. A 2D fuel is used in warmer weather because it has a higher viscosity and pour point. The higher viscosity provides better lubrication qualities for the moving parts of the fuel injection system. Because 2D fuels contain more Btu's (British thermal units - the amount of heat necessary to raise one (1) pound of water one (1) degree Fahrenheit) per gallon, they are able to deliver more power per gallon. This is critical to diesel engine fuel economy. The higher the Btu rating a diesel fuel has, the greater power yield per gallon; thus, higher mpg will result. Cetane rating is the diesel equivalent to gasoline's octane rating. Unlike an octane rating, which rates gasoline's resistance to spontaneous ignition, the cetane rating number (usually 40 to 55 for medium to high speed engines) notes the relative ease with which diesel fuel ignites. The higher the cetane number, the easier the fuel ignites; the higher the octane number, the more resistant the fuel is to ignition. Each manufacturer usually specifies a minimum or maximum cetane rating and the suggested operating temperature for 1D and 2D fuels. A given fuel may meet 1D or 2D specifications, but if the Btu rating is too low, then decreased fuel mpg will result.
 
i dont know how it works in the states but here in finland we always have used heating fuel for our tractors in agricultur. . but now adays we need to use diesel or another oil thats not used for heating. .

the non tax oil is red and ilegal if your not ofroad and our old heating oil has for some years now got somthing in it that will destroy pumps or at first your injectors. . its not somthing made up its true seen it. . its like its metal flakes in it or somthing. . and also i belive viscosity / fat is difrence in all theese
