so have they inproved the transmission's yet?

we just bought a 04 2500 HO with an auto. i smoked three transmission's stock on my 99 (210hp stock!) this new truck has 305hp out of the box:D will the transmission last? if it's better, how much will it take? i'd like to put stage 2 injectors and an ez for a boost fooler. will i be calling massdiesel for some DTT stuff to make it happen? thanks for insight... . james

The auto trannie has changed from the one in your 99' to a 48re from an 47re since early jan. 2003.

Time will tell how it holds up to the 305 hp. I here that many of the internal parts have been upgraded.

The converter , however in my opinion, is the weak link - as they still have not approved it for use with an exhaust brake.

Dj, I just learned today that they DID make a auto transmission work with a ex brake. I was corrected by 3 differant people and even by poeple that work on them for a living.

Bombs away!!!!!!

Go ahead and call Massdiesel and get the DTT upgrades. Makes the trans even better. I did my truck at 2K. All who drove it at the recent TX rally liked it (stock engine) Will be adding EZ and possibly injectors eventually. DTT converter makes big difference.

I have long said that 90% of the time the transmission in any vehicle is as good as the person driving it. We have a 1999 and 2001 3/4 deisel that both have autos. The both carry Boss V-Plows and plow snow all winter. The 99 I have used to pull my off-road truck from WI to CA twice, that is about 12,000# of trialer weight sticking way up in the air, and we are taking going hard for 24 hours straight non stop. The 99 has 100,000 miles on it and the 01 has around 70,000 miles. Both still have the original untuched transmission with no problems what so ever. Traded in a V10 with 150,000 miles on it and everyone said the trannies were junk in them also, but this one still original.

On the other hand I know people that are having transmission problems all the time, but I also know how they drive their trucks.....

So I guess if you a little common sense and do maintainance I think they are just fine, but not made to really take any bombing.

I've had the same experience with my past Mopars. I agree 100%. They are good transmissions when used within their capacity and driven with some common sense.
