what should the max safe water temp be while towing, the truck is a 98 12V, #10, DD2's, ATS auto, 3. 54's??

towing on a the flats the temp would stay near 190ish but towing the long grades between Las Vegas and LA the temp would swing to the mark between 190 and 230 (dead center between the 2) I just wanted to find out what is safe

Thanks

I would like to see mine stay the same place whether I am towing or running empty but I know that is now going to happen. Running flat ground the EGT's should be somewhere around 850* or so and temps may come up a little from where it runs empty.

But you start using the fuel on a long grade where the EGT's climb to 1100* and on up then the coolant will climb.

This is what mine does on a 6% grade pulling our 10k trailer. . with the #10 plate and 5 speed. When I hit the bottom on the grade I go down to 4th, boost goes to about 30lbs and the EGT's run up to 1200*. With in the next mile or so the coolant temp has come up to where the fan clutch locks in at about 205*-208* and it usually stays right there until I go over the top. Now if the outside is really hot. . and the temp climbs past it normal clutch lock up temp. . I drop the egt's down to below 1100 and I have seen the coolant temp drop.

To answer your question... . I dont like to see mine over 210*. . then I start to sweat. .
