When we used to dragrace bikes, I sold my kawasaki 1000ZIR & bought a Honda Thumper (single cylinder) just for fun. Ended up building the S*** out if it. Stroker crank, ported head, needlebearing cam, big valves, 40mm carbs, and it was torquey. I mean really torquey.
You could roll on the gas at low r's and the tire would chirp on every powerstroke. . chirp, chirp, chirp. Was pretty cool. At the same time it would turn 11's at the strip (if you could keep the front end down).
So here I was out cruising w/ a bunch of high revving 4 bangers, and could shortshift the next gear & walk away from most of them from the lights. They hated it cause they would have to work to keep up w/ me when I was just "playing " w/ the torque. Just throw the next gear early, roll on some gas, & Id jump another 10-15 ft ahead.
They called the bike "Shortshift".
Seemed to have alot in common w/ the torque of the mighty cummins. Throw the next gear, roll on some gas... & youre gone. .
