I hope this works it,s my first time. I have a99 ram and had this same problem but with a twist. My overdrive would also turn on and off. I had about 54,000 miles on my truck when this started to happen. The dealer I took it to worked on it off and on for four months. With CTC,s help they found it to be the clock spring in the steering column. This is the ribbon cable going thru the column for all the electrical components in the steering wheel. Such as air bag, cruise control, and the horn. It,s been fixed for almost two years and I now have 114,000 miles on my truck with no problems. I hope this helps.
