As I've mentioned, I've got an 'irritable' #12 plate in my '97... . This whole disconnecting the wastegate gig is starting to get my mind racing... Exactly what does the wastegate do, why do we disconnect it to increase performance, and what's the down-side (wear and tear, mileage, egt, etc)?

Many thanks guys!!

I'm dispensing with the wastegate all together on advice from Mark at PDR, and going with a 14cm3 non-wastegated exhaust housing triple-balanced PDR HX35.

Mark said their turbo will actually spool faster than a wastegated one, if the #10 plate, AFC housing are setup correctly.

Did you put in the boost control elbow that camee with the kit? If you did it didn't eliminate the wastegate it just keeps it from getting the signal to open until farther up the boost pressure.
