I ordered a Z-Type EGT gauge from Summit Racing back on 3/19 and I was told the gauge was back ordered and they gave me a shipping date of 4/9. OK so I wait!, Then it was 4/22. Now it's 5/4... and I find out that they'll recviece 4 gauges from Auto meter. Then, if I'm one of the 4 it'll be sent out, other wise I wait for the next shipment! #ad

Anyone have any ideas about what the problem is at Autometer???? Are these gauges that popular or do they make them as they're ordered! #ad

Thanks for your reply Rob.
I tried Geno's and Jegs they too said that particular gauge would have to be ordered.
I don't know too many others. I must say also that Summit's price is really good at $100. 00. Here in MASS there's also a Tax and the local speed shops are much higher priced.
I'm at the point where I've waited this long why start all over again. Unless I do manage to find a supplier with one in stock.

Hi Tagalong,
You can contact www.dieselpage.com . This is Diesel Injection Service. I have ordered from them several times now, good service #ad
. When Autometer came out with the 60# boost gauge in the ultralite series I had to wait a couple of weeks. They have great prices.

Autometer does not produce as many "Z" series or "Autogauge" series because they are the lower end of there product line. They dont sell anywhere near as many of them compared to the "Sport Comp" series. So it seems as though those models are always delayed.

H. O. I'll give the DieselPage a look over and see what I can find out. Thanks!
EMD "Lower End of their product line???" UGH! I hope I didn't make a mistake and buy something that breaks in a short time. #ad
So far the transmission Temp gauge is working very well and looks great. I appreciate your reply. Thanks!

Not to worry about quality. They are just priced lower and dont use as much aluminum. You should still have the same reliability, and the same warranty applies.

I am using the Z series also because they match the OEM. According to the Autometer catalog the "Autogauge" is the budget line not the Z series. Any clearification on this would be appreciated.
Also, the Z series cost the same as ultralite etc.

They are comming out with a "Lunar" series of instruments. Neat looking face design, and backlighting. May have to wait for these for my truck.

Whew! Thanks for the assurance that the Z-Type gauges are good quality gentlemen. I do like the match to the OEM gauges. I'm using the green light cover and it's just right for night driving. I purchased them because they also blend in nicely to the A-pillar. I thought the aluminum bezel might catch your eye more than the black on black face.
Thanks for the comments.

FYI Folks, I just called Diesel Inj. Ser. and was told the Z-type gauges are back ordered and not expected till 5/27. They are also $109. 00 plus shipping. I called Summit back and to my surprise the gauges were shipped and mine was mailed out today! #ad
(Summit price $100. 99 plus handling. ) The other two mail order companies told me the EGT Z-type gauge were all back ordered.
Thanks again for your assistance and information.

Ok, a clarification on the "Z" series. They fall into the lower end of their line since they are designed mainly for the public automotive field, such as our applications and the like. The Sport-Comp, Phantom, Ultralite, Carbon Fiber and the top of the line Pro-Comp series, etc are sold mainly to the racing field. There is absolutley NOTHING wrong with the "Z" series in regards to quality or reliability for our applications. Internally they are slightly different and may not last as long as the other series mentioned above in a critical application (Like NASCAR, NHRA racing ect). where hundreds of thousands of dollars in money is at stake) Which is why you wont see them in any of those races. The Z series still has the same customer service from Autometer too. They stand behind thier products. The only series that are truly "lower end" are the "Auto-Gauge" line. I have seen first hand that even the Z series is alot better then some of the other gauge companies.

In regards to the "Lunar" series self luminescent gauges. As of today, there is still no relaese date known. They said "Hopefully this year" but no exact date. Still having problems with longevity of the illumination system. They are cool as hell. I hope they come out soon

Hmmm... what's the visual difference between the "Z" series and the sport-comps? The new gauges DD has looks like a "Z" gauge, but they say it's a sport-comp.
