I learned a few days ago that my 1995 truck needs a new wheel speed sensor for the 4-wheel ABS. The dealer tells me that this part (#560 27947) has been discontinued, but NAPA has one for $290!

I told him that I’d get back to him. I found one on-line at newdodgeparts.com for only $96 plus shipping. So I ordered it, only to learn that it’s discontinued there too.

Since when does a manufacturer discontinue spare parts for trucks that are only 9-12 years old? (This part fits 1994-1997. ) Isn’t this just when most truck owners will start looking for parts to replace the ones that are finally wearing out or breaking?

Does anyone have a source for this wheel speed sensor before I pay $290 for one?

It’s for a 1995 Dodge Ram, 2500, 4-wheel-drive, automatic, with 4-wheel ABS, left-front wheel.

Thanks for any help.

Loren,

Your 95 4X4 has four wheel anti lock brakes?

I'm not positive (and please correct me if I'm wrong) but I thought that all the 2nd Gens had rear wheel ABS only, and when the 4X4 was engaged the ABS was in-active.

I'm sure 98 QC 4X4 has rear wheel only.

I am going to some investigating now. Oo.

My 95 has 4WABS also, and one of my sensors are out, My ABS light is on. I gotta keep an eye out for one used, Dont plan on spending that kind of $$$ for one.

Inside the glove box is an Equipment Identification sticker. The code for 4-wheel anti-lock brakes is BGK. My truck has this code. I ordered it that way.

You can also tell by the elaborate system at the master cylinder under the hood. It is more extensive than the one for 2-wheel ABS, which came standard in 1995.

All that aside, I still need to find this sensor for a reasonable price. I might start checking junkyards... . I mean salvage businesses.

Loren.
