After reading about Pier's (super secret);) governer lever adjustment,I just couldnt resist checking mine out. Looked like the lever would hit right on the nose of the #6TST but would'nt touch it. Comes up about 1/8 " short of touching it. The plate is in stock position. Is this normal or is something out of wack with the governer?

If my memory serves ... you need to move the throttle rod until the plate touches the cam plate when you check this setting ... .

Pumperdude,

Don't worry that's normal. It used to confuse me too. The trick is to turn on the ignition and pull the shutoff solenoid up.

You see, the shutoff solenoid just reduces rack travel below idle conditions to kill the truck. When the shutoff solenoid is down, it overrides any throttle you give it and keeps the rack pulled back. Once you pull up the solenoid, you can easily move the throttle around and the rack will travel forward and touch the plate or go under it.

Hope that helps,

Chris

The fuel solenoid does NOT mess with the rack. It turns the fuel supply to the injector pump on or off. I adjusted my contact point just fine by just moveing the throttle lever with the key off and without touching the fuel solenoid. The throttle just needs to be moved so that the stop touches. If it's moved to full throttle the stop will back off if the engine is not running.

I moved the throttle lever back and forth. I could see the governer lever move in and then back up. the closest it came to the stop was about 1/8 inch. What Chris says makes sence. I'll give that a try.

Kieth: I finally used that breakoff screw replacement you sent me. Thanks

Joe,

Where are you getting your information from? Remove your AFC housing. Peer forward toward the front of the pump. The shutoff solenoid merely moves a lever that pushes the rack back.

The rocker assembly is spring loaded in every direction to prevent damage. You mentioned that when you applied too much throttle your rocker moved away from the plate also. That was because the shutoff solenoid pushed the rocker/rack backwards. You should repeat this procedue with the shutoff solenoid energized to verify for yourself.

Each truck is slightly different due to solenoid adjustment or spring fatigue. Some trucks like yours will allow the rocker to touch the plate with the solenoid off, but MOST will not.

Just trying to keep the facts straight!
