Ran out of go juice today and not happy about it. I have had my truck since March 2000 and fill up about the same time on the guage . I usually stop with about 1/8 tank and DTG at 20 miles and have never taken over 32 gallons. Today with alittle less than 1/4 and DTG 72 miles it died. Here I am 1 mile from my house and good old AAA will not deliever Diesel fuel only gas,I told them to kiss my gas and send a flat bed to tow to my house. About 1 hour later wife pulls up and starts laughing that I ran out of gas?????? Use her car and get 5 gallons of diesel to put in,crack the injector lines and get the beast back on line. This is about two hours later and good old AAA calls to see if I still need a tow. Told them what they could do with my member ship. S0 WHATS UP WITH THAT!!!! Why did everything suddenly change? Did notice that the lift pump sounded sick when primming. I wonder if the guage being off will be covered by my extended warrenty. The little chime and fuel light came on about 10 miles before it died. I think the worst part is still listening to the wife snicker.

I for one never let the tank get that low unless I'm on a long trip AND I never use the gauge. I go 350 miles and fill up. In the summer months I may stretch that to 500 or so. When it's cold water will condense in your tank, so it's a good idea to have as much fuel in there as possible.



I suggest just using your odometer and ditch the cheesy fuel gauge.
 
AAA in my area stopped towing duallies a few years ago. I learned that while talking to a owner of an older Ford 2wd dually that had broken down. I checked into it prior to renewing and dropped it when it was confirmed. I did not know about the diesel fuel thing too.



The fuel guage was the first thing I learned about when I bought my truck used. Left the dealer, noticed the fuel registered low, hmmm, I thought I had more than that? Stopped and took a whole ten bucks worth. Been running by the speedo ever since.
 
I recently pulled into the diesel station after the tank low light came on and put just over 35 gallons in. The truck had gone 640 miles!



Needless to say the gauge has failed. It seldom gets below half, in fact I won't let it get low until I replace the sending unit. I fill up every 400 miles until then.

Yep, 400-440 on mine between fillups. I always top it off too, that way I'm sure I don't run out.



Our trucks have fuel gauges and low fuel warning lights? Who knew?

You know... I've ran out of fuel 3-4 times and never had to bleed the system. Everyone thought I would need to but it always would crank back up. Also, 1 gallon of diesel is not enough to keep it running, learned that and had to make a2nd trip to the station. 2 gal works.

Why does mine start without any bleeding????

When I change fuel filters, I just push the primer button until it feels hard and hear fuel go out through the overflow valve. Always starts right up. No cracking lines or anything else. Works on other in-line Bosch pumps also.
 
There's no aftermarket part if that's what you're asking. I did find out that you don't have to buy the whole unit, just the potentiometer itself.

wow, i have had 2 mile on my overhead computer when i wasnt paying attention, and i made it fine to the gas station, my gauge seems pretty accurate, it took 33. 7 gallons.
 
That is how mine you to be to, very accurate. So I was not really paying attention to milage when the beast died. This should be covered under my after market warranty. I will check with the dealer and have him call.
