I'm in the process of moving from Tennessee to my home state of Florida. I pull into a truck stop in Woodbine GA. and start to fuel up, I needed it bad and it was $3. 69 a gal. As the tank tops off, I look into the filler neck and see BRIGHT RED FUEL  I go in and ask the manager if he knows that there's off road fuel in the tank. He says "You're the first one to notice it so far but yeah, we have the ok to sell off road fuel in Florida and GA because of the shortage in regular diesel". I asked him if the DOT is ok with that because it's $10,000 fine if they catch you with it on the road. He says "Sure, they gave us the ok in GA and FL". I then asked him what if you fill up here and go into SC or AL. He says "You're on your own then". :--) ... Do any of you guys know anything about this? There was no signs on the pumps saying anything about this to the customers, and I heard nothing from the drivers on the CB or even in the news if they were going to do something like this. Especially the part that "You're on your own in the other states. How can this be? And $3. 69 a gallon to boot. The truck seemed to like it though, it was really quiet, it didn't rattle as much and seemed to be smoother. Is there a difference in off road stuff besides the color? This whole business seems curious to me. What do you think??

Larry

IN PA the price of the "red stuff" is about 40 cents a gallon off over the road diesel. I have been lead to believe that #2 fuel oil has more sulfur then diesel but i am sure one of the members has more info than I

fuel oil does have more sulfur, but just because it's red, that doesn't make it fuel oil... I've hauled hundreds of thousands of gallons of dyed LSD.

Larry M, there have been posts on here about this subject, and you should be fine. You did keep the receipt from GA, tho, just as proof that you were there, right?

Sounds to me like they are selling the cheaper off road diesel at the higher normal diesel prices... and I bet the govt don't know about it either. All the posts I have seen about the off road fuel said it was only until mid sept.

The treasury department allowed the use of dyed fuel nation wide up to 9/15. If you have receipts there will be no problem. Some stations sell both and at 3. 69 I'm sure you have a valid arguement for tax payment made.
