Hello all, was hoping for some directions here: I have been noticed oil on underside of truck all way back to end of fuel tank? maybe head gasket I thought but no ext. signs of leakage other than blow by tube/ Also have noticed my boost not getting up any higher then 32 from which I have seen more in past?/ also while pulling trailor up a hill I have some hesitation kinda like a miss jerking with 28 boost and at 1100 egt? have just put on new fass system too so now not thinking fueling problem... I was wondering how can we tell if head gasket blown internally? ez way... little help please!

One easy check is to stick the rubber overflow tube from the radiator into a 32oz styrofoam cup that's about 2/3 full of water. Check for bubbles... sometimes it's hard to see them in the overflow tank, but will be easier to see in a big "sonic drive-in" style cup. DO it when the engine is warm, and give it some RPM while you're looking. I had a headgasket leak once that caused a pressure build-up in the cooling system.

What your describing about the miss doesn't really sound like a head gasket leak to me though. What level are you running on the Juice/Attitude when you notice the miss? I've noticed mine to do that sometimes on some of the higher levels. It could also be an APPS issue. Although neither the Juice/Att nor the APPS would cause an oil leak.

Have you checked your vacuum pump seal? Right under the VP44. When they start leaking, they make a horrid mess.

Thanks AndyMan, I'll give it a try. any other thoughts other then head gasket. Was thinking head gasket cause never done anything with it and I have just entered 200000 mile mark.

Never had done any thing other than maintained motor changed injectors and adjusted Valves and yes my mods in sig: 200200 miles Yes all mods started when I joined TDR march 2006

Checked like you said and had no bubles but the water turned lite green color hose was dripping antifreeze rate of 1 drop every 2 seconds guesstimate temp of truck 190

would the vacume pump leak oil? I have on order a power steering pump cause I know it is very wet under side and figured I would replace it too and opt that out of possible problem, cant really see where its leaking just figured at the lines. but now you mention vacume pump maybe I should be looking closer at it. shure is close to power steering pump and not much room to work there.

I'd keep a eye on your coolant/oil levels & make sure that they aren't mixing. If no signs of leaks & it passes visual inspection... . you should be fine. When modifying these Cummins you will get some blowby from the tube. I'd say that is what you are seeing & you probably have a boost leak.

Drives me Crazy, I love the truck and really try to take care of it when I see oil all over under side of truck I want it gone. wife says it's just a work truck. NOT!!!

Just a thought, a subject unrelated to engine problems, but on my 1998 Dodge 2500 4x4 with 180,000 miles, the slip yoke that goes into the transfer case or in your case the slip yoke into the transmission was leaking around the output shaft seal and caused gear oil to be propelled throughout the underside of the truck, just my two cents.

oil is covering bottom of oil pan and every thing from front to back yes the drive shaft is making worse by slinging all aver arond that area but not the main source. thanks for input though.

Its possible it has theold style timing cover on the front. If thats the case check there is not a crack or hole from the kdp . Mine is 98. 5 and had the old case . I had the dowel pinned. Hope this helps

Dont have any pictures of timing cover. There are lot of info here on kdp or killer dowel pin. Im sure if there is a crack or hole in the cover by cleaning it off you will see it. The dowel can work its way out ,and there are three posililties, It will fall in the oil pan, it can be picked up by the timing gears and thrown out thru the cover ,or worst case get jamed in the gear train causing big trouble. Hope this helps you check it out.

well I have looked at cover and It is rather clean no oil anywhere there and no signs of anything wrong by looking at cover, I thought KDP was for 12 v motors? but have done some reading and seems to be on some 24 v motors too. Damn some thing else to worry about now!
