Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) What's wrong with my manual transmission?

Are sinkros off? Sometimes while in neutral the transmission doesn't want to go into gear, 1st or reverse, and while driving sometimes it's hard to shift into 3rd. What needs to be done?

Sounds like your pilot bearing's shot.

Sounds like a worn sincro. Mine's been doing this since I put it in over 150K miles ago.

I bet almost all your syncros are getting bad, thats what it sounds like to me.

Pilot bearing is toast!!!!!!!

Mine did the same right after I put in a CON OFE. Pilot bearing was tight and had to loosen up. It did and it shifts perfect now.

If the transmission shifts OK when the engine is not running, I agree with the pilot bearing diagnosis. .

If still hard to shift without the engine running, try changing the oil.
