I am looking at a 96 CTD CC with 115,000 on it and the steering seems kinda loose compared to my old truck and other 96-97 trucks I have driven. Its not sloppy like to much play just real light feeling and not as solid as the other trucks. Any ideas? I dont want to buy something that needs a lot of front end work but its a clean well cared for truck which is hard to find around here.
TIA
John

Check the ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm and tie rod ends. I replaced the whole works on my 94 at about that same mileage. It was amazing how sloppy it really was (compared to the new tight replacement parts). I wouldn't let this be the deciding factor. I replaced upper and lower joints, pitman arm, and idler arm for about $350 (compared to a $750 shop estimate). It's easy to do and I would definately recommend doing it yourself, a shop will really run the chilly to ya'. I'm from the Waco area so I'm up there fairly often. If there's any way I can help let me know.

John, it could be as simple as narrower tires or even higher tire pressure than you are used to. Could also be that the PS pump is putting out higher pressure than normal, since the pressure isn't adjustable it must vary some from rig to rig.
