It appears some are guessing what the total weight of their rig is when towing. How many have put the combination on a scale to see actual weights:

My total weight with my truck (see signature) and 28' Jayco 5ver (Model 263) is 15,720 lbs. That is loaded with all fluids and stuff needed.
Steer Axle: 4380 lbs
Drive Axle: 4140 lbs
5ver Axle: 7200 lbs Trailer GVW is 10000 lbs.

Weigh those rigs and show what your actual weights you are pulling.

I had weighed my '96 2500, 20500#, trailer weighed 13200. That is why I upgraded to the 3500ETH, I didn't weigh this one yet, but should come in just under the gcwr of 21500. Trailer definately under the 14300 they spec'ed.

33,000 and some change. This was on a Indiana DOT scale. They were the ones kept in the car, and analog not digital. This was weighed in the driveway before a 200 mile trip to deliver it. It was a Great Plains 30' Drill on a 36' gooseneck. The weight wasnt a problem due to my dad dating the DOT officer. #ad

Are you fellows aware that vehicle scales have over an 80% failure rate on Inspection. I certify scale for the state of New York. I put my 3500 an a scale I inspected the day before so I know my gross with a 945 Lance truck camper wet is 12400. Do not believe most scale unless you see a recent inspection state seal attached.

My combined weight varies but averages between 18,500# and just short of 20,000#. Alpinlite truck camper and 16' cargo trailer on a new ETH 3500. The truck is loaded that way 100% of the time.

Well, I didn't have my boat with me, but I did hit the scales at work today. Weights were measured with a full tank of gas, fiberglass shell, some tools and me (220 lbs. )
Front = 4060 lbs
Rear = 3000 lbs
Total = 7060 lbs

Someday I'll hook up the boat trailer and see what the grand total is... ... #ad

Runaway:

Had my truck weighed on a "Cat" Scale
in Indiana the first of the month.

Truck Weight: 6,820 pounds
(That was with full fuel
and me in it. )

I recently purchased a 5th wheel with an advertised total weight of 7700# and a pin weight of 1600#. I pulled it onto my friendly neighborhood gravel yard scales to see what it really weighed. I know the truck itself is about 7100# (with me). Anyway, with the trailer (completely empty), the truck weight was 9600# and the trailer (still connected to the truck) was 7000#. This seems to imply that the pin weight of the trailer is 2500# and the total trailer weight is 9500#. I don't see how it could be that far off from the advertised weight, especially the pin weight. I'm over both the pathetically low tow rating of 9000# (which still amazes and frustrates me) and the equally pathetically low GCVW of 16000#.

Kevin, that gravel pit scale --when was it last certified? May want to go to your local truck stop and weigh on one of those "CAT" scales. Also, was the scale you used section'd. Meaning; were you able to put the front axle on one section, the drivers on another and then the trailer wheels on the third section?

Runaway, I don't know when the scales were certified and it is not sectioned. There is one plate that I can fit either the truck or the railer on. After weighing it, I may run by a truck scale and see what it says. The gravel yard is nice because it's close and free. I have read that trailers are heavier than the published weight, but this seems too far off.

Weighed on a private woodproducts scale with myself and co-pilot. 18,580# total. Room on scales for both units. The 100gal water tank water tank was empty. The 60 gal fuel tank was full. So if I fill the water tank etc I will need to add 1000+lbs.
