I've been corresponding with Continental Imports about the VDO Vision line of gauges. When their Rep. responded to my inquiry about an Engine Oil Temp. Gauge, he asked for some additional information, to wit:

CI Rep. : "If you could measure the oil drain plug diameter and thread pitch, I would be able to make sure this is correct (sending unit number and price). "

Does anyone know this spec. ? Also, I'm obviously considering mouting the sending unit sensor at the bottom of the drain pain. BUT, does anyone have a better idea?

Thanks for any help.

There's a port in the top of the oil filter head that you can put a sender in. It would be much more protected up there plus you wouldn't have to mess with it when doing oil changes.

BigMo, I'm also using that location for my oil temp(top of oil filter bracket) and would recommend same for an accurate reading. Don't put any thread dope on if your gauge is electrical, needs metal to metal contact to work properly. The install is real easy, just remove the silver bolt from the top of the filter bracket and replace with your sender.

Thanks Bigsaint.

I just like to get things "right. " With help from you guys, I think I've got a pretty good shot at it.

Now, if my better half can just appreciate why we need gauges, (and then... new exhaust, new injectors, etc. ) on a brand new truck, I'll be battin' a 1000! #ad
