ALL our 5er towing involves lots of higher elevation mountain grades - and total loaded GCW for our 5er and truck is about 14K - even at that we average 16. 5 MPG, with a best of a bit over 17 - all hand calculated, and driving right at 60 MPH - speed limits in Oregon are 55 on the highways...

I just got back today from a 500 mile camping trip. I averaged 13. 3 mpg hand calculated. I just had a Jake brake installed last week and was curious if the new brake made a difference and it didn't. I have a 8k lb. fifth wheel camper.

I tow with a 2001 & I get 11-12 towing 34 ft Montana, weighs 13,640 lbs. Have the edge e-z chip. I never get over 60-65 mph and generally tow in 5th gear if I'm not over 60 mph.

With 28 ft. 10K fifth wheel, 12. 5 to 12. 7 on several trips. Don't know about with ULSD yet... .

This trailer has a fairly low profile front end.

High headwinds make a huge difference.

I get 23+ empty at 70mph.

18-19 towing my jet sled at 70MPH.

Towing a buddies 04. 5 Ram on a triple axle trailer at around 14. 5K I got 16. 8.

3. 54 gear, DTT auto, 285 tire, towing twins, cam injectors. Box is always on 1x1 when towing.

two tractors, one 8k another 3K , a golf cart at 800 , a 6k three axle trailer , and a 7400 pound truck , it adds up to 25200 pounds and 9. 7 miles to the gallon. as you take stuff of the mileage goes up. a golf cart and a 8k tractor gets 11 miles to the gallon. :-laf:-laf

I am getting 8. 6-12 towing about 16,800lbs. We do live in the mountains and I tend to run about 2400 RPM's on the hwy.

Empty 19-20 mpg, w/truck camper in bed 15 mpg, w/camper and Jeep on trailer 13-14. This is all cruising at 65... .

Empty 16. 5

Towing- hardly ever under 10 nor over 12.

4. 10 gears, boost hardly ever under 10, egt's run around 850 while towing.

Doesn't seem to matter the weight.

These numbers aren't corrected for my 285's.

It also does it's fair share of idling, takes a bit for the EGT's to cool.

empty i have been in the 19-20 range so far this warm season. last trip we took with the 24ft enclosed (square front) featherlite carhauler (weight was l little over 17000) we averaged 9-12 running around 70-75mph. Both myself and the buddied that went with me are both bummed cause his '01 with the same basic setup ext cab short box 5. 9L/NV5600 and same weight we had avg. 11-13mpg. its making him wanna hang onto his older model now.

16. 36 mpg towing my Jetta on my carhauler running 60 to 62mph with the AC on for a 320 trip. This was on injectors only, no timing added.

Im not positive of the weight but with our 29' camper I average right around 14. Empty I average 18. 5. Doing the speed limit of course...

A good friend of mine borrowed my 2000 Chevy with a Vortec 454 5-speed (nv4500) 3. 54 gears 2wd today. He set the cruise at 60 and drove it over 300 miles. It got 17. 4 on the flats. 16. 3 overall including climbing the grapevine.

He is using it to pull his trailer on a trip. We are taking a 96 12 valve with the same gears and transmission. It will be an interesting comparison. We will be back in 2. 5 weeks.

Until the introduction of ULSD I never got less than 14 towing. Typically I got between 14 and 16 mpg dragging my goosneck and grossing between 19K and 20K. But now with ULSD, I'll get as low as 12 mpg.
